That car looks great! |
Thanks! Not too bad for a 69 I think!
I am pondering going with pre-67 front fenders on it within the next year or so and repainting the whole car. And I am also planning on building a custom exhaust as well. So... the process never ends. _________________ Former Snorkelstang owning, abortion driver. |

I have chased these MOMO wheels for close to 30 years and of course they came up for sale while I was out of the country racing at Bonneville. But, the seller was a good guy and held them for me when I told him my story. He's the 4th owner of them since I saw them back in 1988 on a Ghia that was getting parted out at the local ACVW shop. I was a broke apprentice and couldn't afford the $200 for them back then. They've never been on another car, just sat in various garages for 30 years.
Now they're in mine.

The CIP1 4 bolt BRM style wheels look pretty good on my trike.
They're a good match for the one year only Sportster 7-spoke mag on the front.

Found this beauty a couple of weeks ago. Of course it came up for sale while I was out of town like the set of 4 I found. But again, a good guy held on to it for me until I got home. This one spent its whole life in the truck of a 914 as the spare. I don't think it ever saw the road.

Those(because they look like 914 Pedrinis), Pedrinis, the sport bug wheels and the regular slotted steel wheels are my favorite _________________ My 1968 1600SP build:

I Think this is one of my favorite street bug setups I have seen so I did some digging through his post history to find out whats going on.
He has a stock 68 pan with a super body. Wheels are Ansen 5.5j15 and 7j15 (dont know offset) with 245/60R15 on the rear and 225/60R15 on the front.
It looks like he has fender flairs but I cant find any info on it. Poke is also quite extreme even with the flares so you may want to go a dash narrower
EDIT: Maybe poke isnt quite as bad as I though, but probabaly still want to go down to something like a 205 or 215 without the fenders thouh

These are 1970s era Western Wheels "Turbines", 14 x 5.5 inch. They normally come raw aluminum, i had them powder coated Sun Gold. I also added the three spoke knockoff and red repro center decal.

Very nice! I am working on a couple sets of 14" diameter mags at the present time also: Some US Mag "5-slots," and also some "Dan Gurneys" manufactured by, I think, "Per-Spec Industries."
Fourteen inch mags are an underground movement (ha ha). There are some interesting tires available for fourteen-inchers also. _________________ Stock Steve

These are some fairly unusual 15" diameter, 6" wide, 4x130 alloys that I purchased recently from a Samba seller. I was pretty sure I had never seen them before, and the seller told me that, as far as he knew, they were only sold for one year, by one of the big California aftermarket VW parts houses, which is when he bought them, approximately 12 years ago. I need to study and document the markings on the back more thoroughly, but from what I recall seeing, they were made in Italy. Might have to start up a new thread for these in the custom wheels & tires section of the forums...
It appears I need to use those little adapter rings for ball seat-to-cone shape lug bolts, and then also the extra long cone-shape lug bolts, both of which I found fairly readily online (with some helpful pointers from a few Samba threads that I looked at first). Should be a learning experience...
Here is a photo that the seller sent me a copy of, with the wheels on his Bug:

Hey I've got a set of those, too. I have been trying to figure out where they came from and what center caps would fit on them.
I have to keep a set of ball seat lugs in the frunk with my spare on a stock rim. _________________ 1972 Super Build |
