I have one of these on the sliding-door window of my '87 camper. The frame is aluminum as compared to the plastic original, so it won't disintegrate from UV over time. Also, the frame and screen are black (at least mine is), in case that matters to you. Looks to be a high-quality piece.
Was fairly easy to install, just follow the directions.

So you are satisfied with them? Any rattles? Did you have to modify your window frame? Thanks _________________ '84 Westy - 2.2wbx, GT Torque-Biasing Differential

No rattles, nice tight fit. No modification of window frame is required, no drilling or anything. Just a screw driver is all that is needed.
Very happy with this item! _________________ 1987 2WD Westfalia

I have them and I am pleased. I like the fact that you can replace the screen material. Mine seem to whistle on the highway at speed. When I replace the screen materail I'm gonna go with vinyl to seeif that eliminates the whistle. _________________ Binger

I know this is an ancient thread, but I just got one of these and can't get the screws to loosen to install. It looks like the paint has them frozen, and I'm starting to strip them! Anyone have that problem, or have an idea of how to loosen the screws? Thanks! |

Lay them flat on the table with troublesome screw facing upwards, apply downward pressure and slowly try to turn screw. _________________ 1986 Vanagon Syncro GL, westy interior, GW 2.4 and all locked up

I agree with all of the above. Good quality product and, yes, the screws are tight. _________________ 1982 Vanagon Westy 1.9 Diesel NA (Mello Yellow) |

I did buy one and I'm very satisfied with it after 2 years of use. I had a bit of a hard time with the screw too. _________________ '84 Westy - 2.2wbx, GT Torque-Biasing Differential

Can anyone tell me what the difference between a Westfalia sliding window and tin top slider is? These sliders say they are for westfalia only? |

The westy slider latch is positioned more towards the middle with different pieces of glass and it clears the screen. The passenger van sliding latch is positioned at the front and will not allow the full time use of the screen like the westy version. The removal of the screens more than a few times will find them broken pretty quickly.

Thanks syncrdoka! I see that now that I've had a look at mine. Looks like there really is no way to have a full time screen on a passenger van then. I guess the Velcro has to stay. |

If you have the older grooved window seal, You can pull out the ugly trim
and use weed wacker string to install regular fiberglass screen directly onto the seals....use a narrow screen roller and lots of soapy water.
Mines been on for a year now, love it, easy to do easy to fix,or remove.
You can even run at freeway speeds, windows open, no issues |
