What year is that kit. I remember getting on in 1970 for a 66 bug I owned . The one I got was a bronze color with a walnut wooden knob. I haven't checked if they still make these. |

I spent the last few weeks on and off fixing grounds on the FI and the dash trying to figure out why on earth the fuel gauge has always jumped when under 1/2 tank and a few raps to the old dash pad would tell me when it didn't move up at all I needed to get fuel . Before some clown ran a red light in mid 2012 it always acted up a bit above 1/4 tank.
Then there is the horn that only works when the engine is running then I find the T/S switch wiper has a small hole worn in. All I started out to do was just fix the plastic horn pad . It was fine until I pulled up on the left top it's a 73 of the pad and it would not snap back down . I was able to find the small plastic piece , one of the three tabs each of the 4 pad mount holes has to snap over 4 plastic posts. I found testors liquid cement smells like acetone would melt the plastic and fuse it back together. Then I snap it on and it held strong now I wish I had removed the wheel and dealt with the horn wiper and ring . I don't want to pull the pad thinking my glue work might , Oh well. Has to be done . The right side same tab had a few small cracks , both sides in just the one spot L&R top two have no good support at that point. I let the solvent glue get in well both so they should hold coming off . not about to pay $65 for a repop one. |

Not 100% sure on year, I don't have any documentation on it. _________________ '67 Squareback

Yeah I really lucked out with mine. The repro plastic base covers don't fit as well as the originals and typically you'll find them with missing springs, cracked poly blocks, etc.
To anyone looking, Jeff (glandnut) does amazing rebuilds/custom work for Hurst shifters (first link). _________________ '67 Squareback

I wish I'd had the foresight in my early 20's to hang on to the Hurst shifters I had back then...had two 5 gallon buckets of them and damn near gave them all away.
I have a Hurst in my current car - I like the way they function much better than the stock shifter. |

It’s more about what sizes are available.... here in the UK. 16” tyres are very limited in sizes.
The rears where the limiting factor for me. Rears are 245/45/16, as I wanted to maximise the amount of rubber at the rear end.
Fronts are 205/55/16 ( I recall )
I’m not into the cal look, nor am I after stretched tyres which is what they came with when I bought them. 205/50/16’s all round.

There is an opening at the front tin on the firewall section forward of #1 as if it was cut off . The rear lower under cylinder tin bolts to it. |

Once you install the under sled tins, and big heat exchanger boxes, most of that hole will be covered. Some heat boxes have a capped cover plate on them. This is so you can remove the plate to use with single carb engines. VW kept the upper tin shapes pretty consistent over the years, but they also offered different engine combos as well. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
