Not 'today' but over the last couple weeks:
I rewired the whole car using a rebel wire bug delux harness.
Added this decal I have been saving even before I knew I would get this car:
Today I will be replacing the OG clock with a matching Tachometer from ISP.
Took the bumpers off because, dang it just looks better that way:

Got the 63 from storage for a couple of jobs.
First off, I always had starting probs, even with a new battery. So bit the bullet and got an Optima 6 v. I have always tried to keep the car as original as possible but technology says otherwise.
Tried to figure the best hold down arrangement. I also replaced the live and ground cables. Not og but they work.
.
Also did version three of LH rear hub oil seal. It’s been a persistent leaker since build so tried a better quality kit from CSP, went for a drive after but time will tell if it still leaks.
That was what I did to my t3 today. |

Woke up the square, and did a wheel/tire swap, back to daily driver for 2022
funny how much better they ride with some sidewall on the tires
Swapped out the vintage speed shifter to a CSP T handle too, every once in a while the VS shifter would try to grab reverse instead of second, the CSP has the button to prevent accidentally pulling up on the shifter

I have not done much at all for my car in some time.
However, I did find this in the swap meet over the weekend for it.

6.5" widened stock type 3 smoothies, white powder coat with an ice pearl in the clear. They look cool, but the camera never pics up the pearl, it just looks overexposed in the sunlight

I BOUGHT IT!!!
But I chickened out driving it home.
1. I couldnt find the engine
2. I havent really driven a stick in 20 years
3. It seems to have been maintained pretty well, but I dont know how good it actually drives, stops, etc, and I didnt want to have to figure that out in the hilly terrain between Vermont and Maine
4. Not with the road rage going on that i observed on the way up and the way back
5. It was like a hundred degrees out today
But hopefully Ill have it at my house by monday or so. _________________ Tilda the Mustard Tigress 1973 Squareback (o'''^'''o)

Excellent! If you bought it in VT, is that VW shop John's Car Corner in Westminster? A well kept Type 3 is a treat for driving comfort and a very capable highway long distance touring car. Amazing there is such a difference to a Beetle despite both models having the same (94.5") wheelbase. |

Bring a lunch before you read this!:
Yes its a 73, and I did buy it from John. Ill do a ..well, not a "build" thread, but a "putter with" or "tinker with" thread once I actually have it in hand.
I have moved on from the buses, kindof too many projects and too much to do, I had alot of good father/son time with them, but I work for the Post Office and since the plague hit its been crazy busy, and to be realistic, I was just going to go on day trips for the most part. I had these ideas of like Moab, but im too old and busted for that.
So I was "hmmm..type 3s. they are dope!" So I searched on the classifieds and the various craigslists, like a jaguar tracking pronghorn in the county of Cochise.
Either they were in really nice shape, and out of my price range, or kinda OK, but i didnt want to drop mad stacks on something I couldnt touch. I really gotta get a photobucket, cuz I have a good diagram of the situation at work. Mail is at 125%, mailman supply is at 50%, so flying all over isnt going to work.
Then i found this one in Oregon, a 66 (mid 67 really), but it was just a bit too "sketchy". The guy wouldnt get me the pan numbers, etc, and it was pretty tired. No idea when engine was run. 1500 bucks
the best car carrier deal i could find was at least 3500.
So i figured Id call John up, as I hadnt been up there in a few years and I asked him if he had any squareback projects?
He said "No, but I have a nice one..California car, no rust, never been hit"
So I had to go to an appointment in white river junction anyways, so I swung by.
OK, its got a little rust, but pretty much the worst spot I could find, and I was kentucky fried mailman by the time I was done, was some scabrous stuff around the deck under the insulation. A few pinholes past the hinge, and a little bit of non magnetic stuff on the bottoms of the rear of the front fenders.
but the worst rust on this is better than the best rust on any VW ive ever owned.
Id rather he hadnt gotten it painted, but its close-ish-enuff.
But it fired right up, its got alot of little stuff to do on it.
I want to say this is the only running type 3 ive seen east of the mississippi.
He said he was sad to see it go, and he didnt really want to sell it, but he recently got a Brasilia and figured it was the time to let it go. He has driven it regularly. As I was checking it out he was giving my wife all these advices on it "How close do you live to the ocean? I was gonna wax it before you got here, so make sure you wash and wax it when it gets home" _________________ Tilda the Mustard Tigress 1973 Squareback (o'''^'''o)
