I sold my Fastback almost 10 years ago. After completing my bug, i started to get the itch for another type 3. I pulled the trigger on this local 1966 Notch. The color and interior sold me! Love driving it. Complete opposite to the bug.
Since buying it, I wrapped the roof black, swapped out the wheels, added the body moldings & hood trim, and replaced the dash pad & trim and a couple other odds & ends.
Here are some pics after a quick detail:
I haven't decided if I want to remove the cal-look window trim & one piece windows and reinstall the vent window & window trim. What do you guys think?
I may also relocate the radio and install a bigger engine. |

Having numberous type one and a couple type two the type three is definetly a cut above the type one. The ride alone is different.
Yours is nice for sure. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

This car is gorgeous, and I think it would be even better if you followed through on your suggestion above and go back to the stock look on the windows and window trim. |

Well, I couldn't do it, I couldn't live with the one-piece windows and cal-look rubber. So I installed the correct windows, replaced the window rubbers, cleaned up the radio install and got new wheels.
I was about to start on the new engine but I ended up buying another project. _________________ '54 Bug, '59 Speedster replica, '65 Ghia (in pieces), '66 Notch, '80 930, '85 C10, '89 928, '96 LT4 'Vette, '03.5 Esprit, '05 Elise, '06 Murcielago |

The vent windows do look much better. I remember having to cutout a piece on the door to fit the one piece windows in, how did the reinstall of the vent windows go? _________________ 69 Fastback |

Thanks. Luckily I had an extra set of doors that I used to steal the original windows and hardware. So I used those doors to take measurements and I made replacement support pieces. I then epoxied the new metal to my old doors. Didn't want to risk damaging the paint welding it. _________________ '54 Bug, '59 Speedster replica, '65 Ghia (in pieces), '66 Notch, '80 930, '85 C10, '89 928, '96 LT4 'Vette, '03.5 Esprit, '05 Elise, '06 Murcielago |

Great looking car, and nice choice of wheels and going back to vent windows. I think a stock or GTV steering wheel would look better than the one that's in there now, but that is just my opinion. beautiful color combination! |

That looks sweet. It's also a color you don't see very often. I like the rims, and the conversion back to stock on the door glass. Looks damn good. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I've got an extra set of doors, that I could cut the piece out of, but didn't want to weld on it for fear of paint damage. I wouldn't have thought that epoxy would hold, but I guess why not? No one tells you how bad the air moves in the one piece windows. It feels like the wind is just beating you upside the head, instead of a gentle breeze. I'm sure VW didn't take that into consideration, but that's just how it works out. Thanks for the information! _________________ 69 Fastback |

Love how your car sits. Wish I could get my 64 to sit like that. I either have to get taller front tires, or lower the rear. Taller front tires would probably rub the fenders. The rear has short axles installed so the tiniest bit of camber makes the rears tucked in too much. Forever fidgeting. |

Since I haven't posted an update in a while ...
When I was deciding on wheels, everything I saw said you cant run 6" wheels in the rear on long axle cars. So I bought a set of four 5.5" wheels. I liked them but I didn't love them. So I bought a pair of 6" wheels. Sure enough, they didn't fit at first. In the end, I ran a 10mm spacer to clear the center caps and rolled the fenders. The end result ... exactly what I was looking for; much more aggressive fitment.
I also installed a Nardi wheel.
My rear bumper had lots of pitting. Decided to try out a set of stainless bumpers. I liked the way they came out also.

Sharp! Did you use the Eastwood roller on the fenders?
I have used lots of those stainless bumper sets on Mercedes and the fit and finish as been top quality. I haven't used any of the Type 3 bumpers yet but I have some on order. I've seen lots of complaints about the fit for other Types but it's good to know you were happy with yours. Did you get from Rooney or another supplier? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни!
