Before I get under the Dashboard of my Laser917 "again" I'll ask you guys what do you think?? I'm driving along and the thing runs great, then it just shuts off ?? the alt lite comes on and the elec. oil pressure gage drops to zero,I switch off the universal keyed switch untill the alt lite is off and it starts right back up every time. then the other day I went to start it and the starter stayed engaged even with the key out WTF??? I'm thinking the Ing. switch or the starter sylinoid "Opinions please" Thanks in advance ,Madmike _________________ 'Black Ice'Drag Buggy 'Turbo'

WTF is a laser 917?
Anyway.... sounds like a problem one of my old colleagues had with a GM motor once... Alternator was on it's way out and when the charge dropped below a certain voltage, everything shut down to prevent damage.
No idea if this is anything like what you are having to deal with but thought it might be relevant |

Marv- It's a swoopy, futuristic looking kit car from the 70's. _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

Yep, it's a smaller-scale fiberglass kit car based on the Porsche 917.
Real:
Laser 917:
A Laser was featured in "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo", btw:
Not that any of this helps with the ignition problem!

| Actually, sounds like you've got two different situations going on. The car suddenly shutting off sounds like it's either dropping a ground to the coil or power to the coil. Check all your lines from the ignition to the coil, and all your ground lines. A loose ground line can ruin your whole day. Same deal with the starter staying engaged, though that's more likely a sticking Bendix in the starter itself (or sticking solenoid). |
