Thank you for the BUMP.
I had somehow missed this entire digital collection and I've had my Thing since 1988. I remember how precious each and every paper newsletter seemed to be back in the early 90s. Finding information about the Thing used to be like panning for gold. I'd find a few flakes of real info for every ton of sand.
Now, I can't stop finding information. It is an overload. I need to retire just to read everything!!

I can totally see this beautiful pink? jewel sitting in the rotunda of your Silicon Valley mansion. I would paint yours for free to just look like it. We could make an identical ground effects kit and sell thousands. _________________ I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented....I forgot where I was going with this

once scanned let us know and I'd be more then happy to buy a CD-Rom with the PDFs or such.
of course an internet available source wouldn't be bad either.
but Scans on CD would suffice for me.

Sharing this stuff for free is why I am translating the German Bundeswehr Thing manual. It's 112 pages and I am through about 30, in my spare time.
I hate it when hobbyists generously scan and donate documents and other people copy them for sale on Ebay.
I would ban those sellers from this forum!
You can sell it if you produce it, but not if you just copy it! _________________ L'audace! L'audace! Toujours l'audace! |

We are back!!! We are close to Riverside, Ca where the original Thing Registry started. Our new Facebook page and web-site is working. Please share our pages and message me if you have any info from the old registry. Thank you!

Is there a way to search your database for my VIN? I'd like to find the PPO who restored my Thing. Thanks! _________________ Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

The registry list is new. I don't have all the information from the old registry... Sorry. Please go to out web-site and register your Thing. You can email me from the web-site and I can check and see if I have your VIN in the system. Thanks, Eric

Jeff and I are working to get all the old newsletters scanned for everyone to enjoy! We will have a link on our website to the archives. We have most of the newsletters from the 1990's and 2000's for the Thing (Type 181) Registry's, the 181 Magazine and the VW Thing Association. David Campbell, Bob Miller, Mike Crisp and Rich Smith did an amazing job with all these organizations... Now we want to continue the VW Thing (Type 181) Registry for many more years to come. If you have any info or old Registry history to share, let us know.

I believe you should receive an email sometime shortly after we get the entire list together. Maybe even this month perhaps. Eric has been hard at work on it.
I on the other hand have been hard at work on the official Fezz we will all be wearing at our first official meeting during Kubel Treffen West 2017 in June.
