lowered my 67 square about 3 up front. seems like I have no travel. My buddys 66 is at the same hieght and has 3 or 4 inches of travel.
my bump stop arms are cut off and I even pulled the shocks off to make sure they were not bottoming out.
To lower it we just took off the bolt on the oposite side we were lowering, pulled the arm off til it was just about level and put it back togeher. did not mess with the ball joint or upper arm.
what could have gone wrong? _________________ www.cultwagen.com

I do have a upper ball joint with some play. I thought that would make the front end looser not tighter and both sides seem like they are out of travel _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

so talked to a few people. from what I understand. because I did not loosen the ball joint like the one on the you tube video, or move the upper arm, the arms are binding. when the car is on the ground the top arm is not alowing the bottom arm from moving down when the suspension compreses.
anyone? _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

thinking about it, probably a good chance. since the top arm is the sway bar, you were fighting it to twist the lower arm up. i would undo the bottom arm and the rebolt. _________________ Danny |

I think I got it!
I loosened the all four ball joints. with them hand tight I put the car back on the ground. have plenty of travel.
Think i just needed to let the car re-index it self so the ball joints were at the correct range of motoin. when I go to tighten the ball joints back up I will do it with a jack under the spindle. _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

Those ball joints are used to set camber, so they may bind after an alignment.
But then with it lowered that much, who cares about alignment, it'll handle like $hit anyway! |

actaully feels pretty good where its at now. way better than any other lowered Vw I've had and I have had a few.
Not a daily driver for sho. maybe drive it once a week to the local Starbucks then to local shows in the summer. _________________ www.cultwagen.com |

Read up on the right initial position of the ball joints prior to alignment. Also see that only the lowers are to be used to align. This applies to stock height, but it might also apply to yours. I think Bentley covers it.
Also, see if the car pulls on the freeway, a sign of bad camber. |

cool.
might go up a little in back. going to tweak it til I get that perfect stance Im looking for, I still have to replace a bad upper ball joint then i'm going to try to get the alignment as close as possible. _________________ www.cultwagen.com |
