|
|
Hello does anyone know where I can find new, the plastic "screws" that hold the (upper) grill to the body, or a suitable replacement.
Mine seem worn and more and more difficult to lock.
Thanks _________________ LG aka VisPacemPB, *The* party Pooper

Because I drilled new grill mounting holes for my conversion: http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/cuttingholeforrad this may not apply, but I used parts from my FLAPS. Nylon (teflon??) "blocks" with a hole in the middle inserted in holes, and black metal screws with hand shaped washers made of doubled over HVAC "tin". (screw head too small for grill holes) _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

You'll find the new grill screw's, the rubber bungs to retain them to the grill, and the grill clips all available here at the samba.com Vanagon classifieds section very resonably priced.
Or go to;

I found a sort of 'collapsing rivet' that you held in place with a cheap special wrench, while the screw within it clamped it around the hole into which you inserted it. You end up with a threaded metal opening.
I cut off the 'lips' of my old plastic screws, the rectangular portions, which weren't holding, and then ran the metal screws through that through the threaded rivets. With a Makita to do your screwing and unscrewing, it's a stronger installation.

<<I cut off the 'lips' of my old plastic screws,>>
What I'm having a hard time undertsandig here--and it's been mentioned twice about "Plastic grill screw's"
They aren't plastic at all.
The are black annodized aluminum.
The stock one's from VW are anyway.
Kinda like a Zeuse or Hilti fastener. _________________ T.K. |

My apologies, I did that on the LOWER GRILL. It's been a long time since I got into that. On the upper, it's as Terry described.
