Well Germansupply had them listed but just recently went NLA. Scott had them listed as a genuine VW part number 022 133 069. I am going to call a couple carb rebuilders in my area.

The ID anc thickness size is also identical to the clutch pushrod seal on watercooled rabbits and golfs if you need one quick. I have in a pinch used a watercooled seal and instaleld with a dab of epoxy or RTV. Ray

Good to know. Thanks. I am going to call a carb rebuilder here in Toronto. He has been in business for ever. He has to have some.

O.D. of throttle valve shaft seat is 15.15mm.

Shaft diameter is 7.93mm.

Now the advice that I have been given is to use a leather washer. I am having a devilish time finding the original washer. Anyway the idea is to punch a shaft size hole into the leather washer and add a drop of oil to the leather. Then use the original washer to secure the leather in place. Apparently the application has been used on other carbs.

I checked Europe, Australia, USA, Canada. I thought of valve seals, motor cycle seals and came up empty. The only idea came from a carb rebuilder who said to use the leather and have the old seal body hold the leather in place.

If anyone has a NOS one of these they will part with please contact me.

That said, here is a company that makes seals in that range. Whether one will work or not I don't know.

http://www.harwal.com/part_search.php?p=2&cid=...e_size=100

This seal might work if 3mm is thick enough

Steve, I have quit a few of these seals in good used condition if you need some.

I remove these on the 2.1 throttle body's that I rebuild and replace them with an inch equivalent seal except that the OD is several thousandths over and I have to bore the throttle body anyway for a bearing so I just open up the seal counterbore at the same time so they are concentric

Hey Phil do you know off hand if the seals for the 2.1 are available. If they are it might be a better route to have the throttle body seat machined to fit the 2.1 seal.

Brett, it looks like the FI bay throttle body uses the same seal as the WBX FI throttle body. I only open up the WBX counterbore because I am using a slightly larger seal.

Reviving an old thread,

Searching for throttle shaft seals. Mine are old and hard, the shaft has play, but just a smidgen, not yet to the rebuild stage.....

pm Phil - whip618 . He might have some more good used ones. There is a substitute you can get at a local bearing supply but it will be single lipped. Note: If there is any play in the shaft, the throttle plate will eat into the side of the throttle body and gouge it. Look for a used one of the same type or send it to Phil to be remanufactured.

These seals can be made CNC by virtually any of the CNC rubber shops out there.

Because of what it does it does not have to have an actual spring tensioner inside.

It can be a relatively solid seal....does not have to be hollow like a standard seal....and as long as the rubber is pliable enough to have its own elasticity and has multiple lips on this ID....it should work fine.

The people who made the EPDM caliper half seals for me could make these in a jiffy. Also...I would make them from EPDM for the same reasons they make brake caliper and master cylinder seals from EPDM....superior heat and chemical resistance over time which = longer elasticity before hardening up and very low heat expansion and shrinkage. Harwal (That's why I included the package in the photo, company ID and item description)
This office was in Vermont but they have others. You do need to purchase from a distributor.
In my case it was Motion Industries in Teterboro NJ.
Harwal will tell you who is nearby if you call them.

The OG VW/Audi product is single lipped too.
Fact is......
These are better, a single lip with a shaft tensioning spring.
