So Wednesday night was my last night at work (I'm changing jobs). In the middle of my shift the guys in the shop bring out a box wrapped in VW catalog paper. I unwrap it and find a box from Wolfsburg West which contains a brand new poptop canvas for my 76 Westfalia. Cool

I've worked with these folks for the last year and a half, and have really enjoyed the camaraderie and the job which makes it all the more difficult to leave this behind. They took up a collection in the plant and everybody contributed to buy this awesome and thoughtful gift. It just really blew me away and I wanted to share how great my (ex) coworkers are!

Those are a great bunch of guys! Awesome way to show they dig the bus and your feelings for it.

Man thats cool. Its not too often that you actually see people appreciating your work anymore, especially in this economy.

Want to know what my company did for me today? (I work from home). They cut me out of the system, without even telling me. Thats their standard practice when they want to get rid of someone. Went to log on today, no go and no job. Laughing More time for summer fun!

That is awesome, we all know how much those cost. I never get treated that good especially when I'm leaving a job.

I have found that the culture of American industrial plant workers to be some of the closest and most family-like that I have ever seen in the business world. I have seen this type of things several times in the years that I worked as a plant employee. They're hard working people and sometimes the spirit of fellowship amongst the workers really hearkens back to what is for the most part a bygone era.

What a great going away present! Of all of the things they could have gotten for your bus, that has to be the best!

That's pretty cool. I'd be stoked. I quit a summer job once and on my last day at 8am my boss gave everyone their duties and told me to go home- he was paying me for a full day! I was super happy, and he was pretty happy I didn't just bail on him like a lot of his help.
