Hope fully this is a simple quuestion.
I've got a leak in my Power Steering Line, just south of the fuel tank.
I assume this is the Suction Hose?
The rubber line/clamps are the problem.
What type/size of hose is correct for replacement?
Will I need to bleed the system?
ATF Dexron or VW Hydraulic Oil (G 002 000) ?
Thanks,
Marc

I'd look into replacing the entire line with hose rather than a installing/replacing a patch.
You will need to bleed the system to get the air out, which is easy. Use ATF fluid. I'd also replace the power steering filter, I think this filter gets clogged which causes higher line pressure which leads to leaks (my theory anyway). _________________ '91 Carat |

Now I'm really confused.
Was this a patch in the rigid line or an original "coupling point" (like the one in the pressure line)? _________________ Now: '89 Westy

That's a coupling point not a repair. My '89 has one in the same place and it is stock.
I'm wondering how to bleed the PS system. I'm going to have to replace one of the hoses at the pump. I already planned to replace the filter but I have no clue on bleeding.
Anybody have experience here? _________________ '68 Autostick Bug Mom bought new

I think you just fill the reservoir up to the line, and turn the wheel all the way back and forth from stop to stop several times, recheck the reservoir, fill if needed, and repeat, until the fluid level remains static. |

Yes, that short hose is original. You could get some tranny cooler hose from your FLAPS. Man, I wish my van was as rust-free as yours.
I use Dexron III in mine. Now would be a good time to flush your system as well.
Do as Jeremy says and the system should pretty much bleed itself... _________________ 1986 Vanagon Westfalia EJ25
