|
|
I have a 68 Westy, which I am just beginning a resto on. I want to run BFG All Terrain Radials on it. I am thinking of using CIP1 wide 5 white spoke rims, but I am concerned about the correct offset for the wheels.
I would like to put 195x15 tires all the way around.
Can someone help me with the correct offset, maybe from experience, or from actual knowledge. I do not want to cut the rear fender wells.
Thanks for any help! _________________ "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein

If i had the cash i'd put a 2.7 or 3.0 Porsche in it ..... and be aircooled too.... I'd burn up a type 4 in this thing.... especially pulling my trailer loaded....uphill both ways.... _________________ Peace,

I'm having a wheelset made for my 68 single cab. Beetle centers with stock width (for a bus) outers. The highest part of the cost will be having the shop cut the wheels apart and reassemble. I'll then have the proper offset with a near stock looking 15" wheel that is also the right width for a bus. My only issue is that the front wheels will be running adapters (to a late bus beam) I have to decide whether I want to try to compensate for the 1/2" or so track increase on each side by adjusting the offset (which will make the front wheels different than the rears) or just have a slightly wider track up there.
Most aftermarket wheels will not suit your application. Not wide 5 anyway.
You could run adapters and use Eurovan wheels although you'll have to do some math there. The adapters will make the needed offset increase (by however thick they are) I beleive the Eurovan wheels are about ET58 while bay's are et38.
Option F...change your bolt patterns using parts from a late bay and use Audi/Mercedes rims. I believe the steelies will fit with little modification and have a near stock offset. I've seen them on more than a few late bays (one recently for sale in the classifieds was running General Grabber AT2s and looked pretty sharp.
Check out the Vanagon and Split forums as well as the offroad forums for more information on this stuff. _________________ Half Bus, Half Truck, What the _______? |

I've searched and have not found an answer. Are split bus and early bay 14" rims the same or interchangeable? If they are different is it the offset, or weight rating, or what? thanks! _________________ Gnarly Goat Rancher |

I'm trying to do the same thing on my single cab. I have 215/75-15 goodyear wranglers and the section width is 8.5 inches and they're currently mounted on 5 inch beetle rims. This setup is unsafe so I'm getting deep smoothies, and am in the same boat for what offset is needed. _________________ Wash your hands

I'm putting general tire grabber at2's on my '73 bus. They only make them in 1 size in the 14" diameter. The 27 x 8.5 r14's. They seem to fit just fine so far. _________________ 1974 standard beetle - Africa red
