i read through the stickys and i didnt find what i am looking for. all i need to know is what do i need to do to my front end to raise it up for a baja bug? (what i need to buy and install) i have read though book and web sites but i have not found any thing useful so if some one could just walk me through it that would be great _________________ 68 bug in restoration,

1968: is it IRS or swing axle?
Given that it's a ball-joint front end, I wouldn't do a whole lot to it.
If you need a higher ride, you can cut and turn the front (you cut about a 8" piece out of the middle of each beam, turn it about 1/4" and re-weld it.
The torsion leaves are mounted in this center section. By doing this, you increase the pre-load on the springs. This makes the front MUCH stiffer, and rides a bit higher. -- The other option is to buy/make lift spindles. Go to blindchickenracing.com for details.
On the rear, you'll need to reindex the rear torsion bars, or better: buy stiffer torsion bars. (26mm - 27mm are typically used in IRS bugs).
There are lots of threads on this, and any good building an off-road baja book will go into lots of detail. The trick is to tighten the rear torsion so you have about 3/8" gap between the back edge of the lower stop and the spring plate. Any stiffer, and it will ride terrible. |

If that isnt something you are ok with doing you can buy a front beam or a completed front end that is already cut and turned. _________________ “It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.”

another option to get the front end up is to buy lift spindles.you can get 2.5 to 3" of lift & keep a soft ride. bolt on simple. |
