I am always Leary of that statement "needs tune up" If it was so easy and you could sell the vehicle for more than the parts invested, than why wouldn't you ?
Most of the time it says that, there is a burned valve or other major problem.

Take it to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection then buy it for $400 when he tells you it needs a new engine. Smile

I agree with PDX. Or if you have a compression gauge, take it with you and check the compression out. Also take a look inside the engine compartment. The fuel injection on these things is old so I would not be surprised if there is rotted out vacuum hose which maybe causing drivability issues. Make sure all the cooling tin is there. Also, all too often people let the engine compartment seal go bad. Make sure it is doing the job; they run around $165.00 and are mandatory. It also lets you know to suspect if they overheated the engine and there is a dropped valve seat. I like the air-cooleds, but to each his own. If the body is rust free and the breaks and suspension and tranney are good it is still worth a look even at that price. A motor is easier to fix than a rusted out body.

Good luck

Nay.

Not such a great deal.

It's an air cool and not a camper.

Is that what you want? Because it's a mess to change any of those.

Check the thread Good deal on nice vans and see what kind of deals one can score.

You could get a camper , non running, for this price.
