The offset one is the one for the dummy handle on the rear of the slider. |

me too. Early ones and back are offset. We will have to remember that. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

hmmmmmmmn. Are you sure? Below is the pictorial from VW. It shows the two handles as the A part and the early style as different.

Do they call it a dummy handle because it was not intended to be used or because I am one for using it. I have a 74 westy and I can't push the door completely closed because if the stove/fridge. Both times I have installed a handle and used it to close the door, it shatters. Dummy. _________________ 71 Standard Beetle "Big Bird"

My question is why do they not make a metal handle for the side "slider" door......
It seems with the way they are prone to break that would be a good answer to the problem.... _________________ Peace,

That handle is for 68-73 campers so you can reach around the sink/icebox and not have to push the handle to open it, used on early style door mechanisms.

Yes, on later campers (mostly 74+), it's nice to be able to latch the rear without the full on slam in the middle of the night. Usually used with the later mechanism but works good with the early style too. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

ok so the way im understanding things right now is
16a is for the 68-73 camper only
the reg handle with offset is for
68-73 bus & for dummy side of door on 74-79 buses
the handle without the offset is standard on 74-79 bus |

1) can someone with the 2nd handle at the rear of the door confirm they are indeed offset.
2) If so does anyone know if the offset handle is still made?
3) If not does anyone know if a regular handle will work? _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
