Weird, I can't remember ever seeing any like that.
I wonder if they are for some S. American-built VW that is uncommon to see here in the USA |
Maybe one of those Hormiga things where the engine is in front of the transmission. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

actually the hormiga is different from the basistransporter concept in that its engine sits like in a beetle, just translated to the front of the vehicle and driving the front axle (a-la tempo matador).
now the brazilian vw gol, on the other hand, had indeed the engine in front of the gearbox, and the heat riser on the opposite side as they are in a bug (see this pic from a google search):
the j tubes at the front suggest however that the heater boxes configuration is not like a beetle; maybe there are no heater boxes at all like in most brazilian aircooled vws. _________________ cars:

How my 1500 N single carb engine's heater box looks
Type 3 exhaust and heater set up might be for single side draught carb
There is a lot of difference between mine and the original poster's pix
Cheers

Top and bottom right are the same photo, and the one behind the "shoe car" is barely visible, that's where I got six.
Curious if anyone here can come up with any info on the shoe car. Gotta be circa 1920-ish. _________________ nothing |

The lettering on the radiator appears to say "Hupmobile", but any photos I see of Hupmobiles of that era have a different radiator design. A movie recreation with artistic license? _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Hee Hee Hee, not movie prop. Good call on the big H. Here is a hint or two. It was specifically designed for the kind of terrain seen in the picture. The wheels are uber tall for ground clearance. There is a famous race held annually where it was designed to run. _________________ Prosit!

it's a western setting and there appear to be some sort of logo cropped in the top right part of the pic so i too tought movie of some kind, was thinking hupmobile but the "H" of the logo looks slightly different, plus the proportions do not resemble any hupmobile i know of.
When you say it was specifically designed, you mean it is a special one-off built for off-roading back in the day (1900s-1910s from the type of body), a production model or a modern recreation?
edit: found it by searching "baja race 1910s"!

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Very good researching. I'm not sure how many were made, but there is only one left. Those tire come up to pass my waist. Ok, I'm short, but not that short. _________________ Prosit!
