Nice project. My first two ACVWs were supers, both '74s. So, how much was this junkyard save? More curious to know what it takes to get a guy to drop it onto your rented trailer. Classic. _________________ Not enough car seats fit into my:

Thank you.
I'll be honest, before I bought my Super, I had been on the Super-hating bandwagon. Now, of course, I've been converted!
I'm glad I got a Super and I want another. This is actually my first car. I bought it myself and the decision to get a Super Beetle was my own.
I have a question about something on my dash though:
To the left of the steering wheel, there is a silver button. Do you know what that button does?
We keep joking that its nitrous or an ejection seat.
I also have to replace my floorpans... I have the new floorpans but I have never done that. |
Great car and find. WOW in this picture it looks like you have a nice interior for a car that was in the yard for 15 years...have you washed and buffed out the outside. might turn out as nice as the inside...and paint those rims...all it will cost you is 2 cans of paint and some time...it will make a world of difference on how the whole car looks. Im not picking on your car at ALL but just thought id give you my 2 cents. when i dont have extra $$ to do big projects little ones like painting the rims or even something as liitle as steel wooling all the chrome to make it look new again or even just armor all anything black makes me happy...now have fun with her! |
Oh...I'm sorry to be misleading with that! I have a new dash cover installed and the seat covers are new. I need to replace the carpet once I replace the floorpans. Also, I replaced the door panels with new ones. I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that.
But as for painting those rims, that's in the works. I just had to make a definite decision but now I'm certain. I've seen another Super with its rims painted and I like the look. I've also been playing on the bugselecta and I've got an idea as to what I want the car to look like. (Sorry for all of you who want me to customize it, but my car is going to stay stock ) If you want to see my plans on the bugselecta just let me know and I will post it up.
EDIT: I couldn't resist playing on the Bugselecta...so here are various ideas. Sorry, the slammed one is just for fun and won't be done to this Super...
Ok so here they are:
How he could look totally restored (but without painted rims):
How he could (will ) look with his rims painted body color:
Sorry, I won't do this to this Beetle:
but it's tempting, isn't it... _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

Thanks. I paid $700 for this Super which i think was a very good deal. The only system that is shot is the brakes. The main line running toward the back of the car is broken from the clutch pedal...
And he dropped it onto the trailer for free. Which is a very good thing. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

You need to lube the seal with something to help it slide in place. You can use soapy water, I was told to use silicone spray, I've heard of others using various things including KY jelly. Anything that won't attack the rubber and will clean or dry up afterwards. Then you start at the bottom center and work your way around, patting on the outside with hand flat (not too hard) just enough to help it slip into place as your partner pulls the cord helping the seal over the body lip. Be patient and go slowly. _________________ Greg

Thank you! We finally got the window in today (after three days of trying) so here are pictures of the new seal!
And then I felt like taking more pictures so I took these today:
Yes, I know: "Get that fuel filter out!" I will once I get close to driving it on the streets.
And a few days ago I took these pictures:
Next to do to the car:
Spraypaint that decklid and the rims green! _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

I LOVE JET NOISE!
I have a license plate frame from the Naval base in Norfolk, VA. I used to have it on my Baja, but now it is waiting patiently for my rag top to get on the road.
Whatever you do don't repaint that car, it looks awesome as-is! _________________ 1974 Superbeetle Bright Orange

Thanks I'm not going to repaint the whole thing. I may not even paint the decklid...I'm going to think it through because I won't be able to go back once I do paint it.
Ironically, I got that Jet Noise magnet at Oceana.
And my car came with a NOB DOD sticker on the bumper for the Norfolk Naval Base. Weird, isn't it? _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

2 things...one i bet that dent in the hood would pop out..open the hood find the sot and with the palm of your hand give it a light hit in the center of the dent..also...please stop with the random stickers or magnets all over your car. it cheapens it in my opinion. your bugs cool enough without all that crap _________________ 67 bugs are only days away from being a Fat Chick!

Yeah I would have liked to have saved all of the cars in that junkyard, but unfortunately I have an extremely limited budget, so I had to get a car that is close to being road-ready...

Yeah, I will look under my hood tomorrow to see what can be done about that dent..
but the dent is sort of growing on me.
It adds character! _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

Ok so it's been a month with no updates. I'm sure you're all dying for updates.
Well, recently I had a blowout (even though the car was sitting still???)
So I now have new tires which are really nice and give the entire car a whole new look
Anyway, on Wednesday I will begin to remove my seats and carpeting on the interior to begin to replace the floorpans! Is there anything that I absolutely must know before I tear my car apart?
I'm sort of scared to do this--I've never done it before.
Well once I get my pictures uploaded I will post pictures of my new tires! _________________ 1973 Super Beetle
