Anyone have any better pics of the factory original front and rear foglights than these I have found?

My '79 only has fog/driving lights on the front. This is the only photo I have handy, but if you'll tell me what you want to see I can take some close-ups this weekend. I'm not sure if they're factory original but they do say "Bosch Germany" on them and they appear to have been on my bus a looong time.

In this country aux lights were a dealer installed item (at least on the front).

I always thought those were pretty snazzy. One of these days I'll get some....

Yup, those front lights look like the real deal.

I understand that the rear fog was a compulsory item in some European countries, so our brothers across the pond are more likely to have pics of those. My LT has both front and rear fogs and is a 1981. It is interesting that the early LT shares a bunch of parts with the baywindow. The rear lenses are the same. I will get some pics up of those.

Here is a pic of the front lights.

I found a couple more like those, Opossum. I wonder if the different types are VWoA accessory vs VW in Europe, or whether it is dependent on model year? My LT is from Europe obviously, hmmm.

Actually, that first pic below is VWoA and those overriders are a VWoA product, so maybe the amber round front fogs are a VWoA dealer addon.

The lights were a dealer option, not factory. over the years they changed, depending on the suppliers price..

dealers often had different lights to offer, The large round type were not sold much, most were the rectangular type. The round one are the same light used on Mercedes only with a yellow lens and are Bosh

There is no such thing as a rear fog light " Think about it" There back up lights. on Bays those were mounted in the body and was never offered as an option,, any you see have been added later.
late slipts and bugs yes there on the bumper and look like a add on,

Usually the "rear fog" light was a brighter tail light on the drivers side of the car. It looks like that brake light is on when the front fogs are on.

Those look like the ones that were on our 78 when we got it. When I changed the bumper I took them off and have stored them.

Could you post a picture of the switch you have inside for your fog lights?

Just curious where it was. There isn't one in ours any longer.

Thanks!

As requested, here are the close-ups. They're mounted to holes drilled in the bumper. The toggle switch is mounted to the right of the stock headlight switch. They're also wired to a relay so they only come on when the low beams are on. They go off when I hit the high beams.

Enjoy!

I have seen a pic of the original euro fog light switch. It has a round body behind the dash panel. 4 switch positions:

1 - off
2 - front fog light on
3 - rear fog light on
4 - Both F & R fogs on

If only I could find the pic...

Question

Aha, I should have known the Brit would have posted it.

"Here are some fog-light switches, with integral green-lensed warning light, featured in my 1976 vintage, Hella safety-accessories catalogue.

Item No. 1 (Hella part No. 6RE 001 596-001) which features the 1968~79 VW Type 2, switch-knob pattern (i.e. dimpled, truncated cone), is a three-pole switch, with the following functions:

Position 0: All lamps switched off
Position 1: Rear fog-lamps switched on
Position 2: Front fog-lamp switched on
Position 3: Front & rear fog-lamp switched on

Item No. 2 (Hella part No. 6ED 001 566-001), is a general purpose, single-pole switch, with the following functions:

Position 0: Lamps switched off
Position 1: Lamps switched on"

credit to NA Skeet

I prefer the #1 which allows for the separate use of a rear fog to increase visibility to the car behind you in foggy situations

Start searching through Nigels posts, if you dare Shocked I'm pretty sure he had pics and a full schematic as well as the regulations requiring them spelled out.

I think the switch I have is for a Porsche or Mercedes, but it'll look great in my dash anyways Wink I got it on Ebay a few years ago.
