Judging by the lack of surprise on the faces of the onlookers, I'd say the level of difficulty is high enough that crashes like these would be somewhat common. Looks to me like the road is a bit slushy and wet, not icy.
Based on the fact that the driver's door on the bus is open, likely indicating the driver is getting out of the vehicle, I wouldn't be too surprised if the bike rider collided with the bus. The close proximity of the vehicles in the pic would lead me to believe that road speeds are quite low so it is somewhat hard to believe the damage to the bus happened in this collision though, plus I'd almost expect to see pieces of a broken headlight lens on the ground with the damage located as it is. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

That’s old Gretchen, the insurance fraud psycho, at it again.
Anyone notice the passenger door window looks to be shattered? _________________ .

Looks like snow to me. You can see more snow at the bottom of the windshields and stuck to the side above the belt line from just behind the door to immediately forward of the vents. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Probably a gas explosion, it happened in Dutch cities in the past.
I tried to find more info on this picture too, with the photographers name, Freek Aal, but I couldn't find it.
Freek Aal was a car mechanic who also was a photographer for several newspapers.
You can find lots of other pictures from him here (a lot of them have Beetles in them!):

I couldn't find this picture though. _________________ homepage

I've never lived where it is winter like that, but I wouldn't think it's even possible to ride a bike on those roads, yet I see there's lots of people doing it. How hard is it to ride in those conditions? |
Actually riding a bike on snowy or icy roads was a blast. The challenge was to pull a 1 1/2 donut or two-zer. When actually trying to get somewhere steering didn't seem to be an issue it was braking that was a challenge often aided by a foot on the ground.
Anyone remember skitching?
Tried to find an image of someone doing it (me) with out success. plenty of people on a skateboard or roller skates. That's not what skitching was originally. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Yep, to me that looks like snow on the slider, experienced it many times. _________________ Roads Scholar &
