IIRC, stock type 1 engines redline at 4600; type IV at (around) 5500 (shorter stroke). Thus, 6000 limit at the tach should be fine. |
Cool. Then I doubt I have to worry. My bus is a T1, so I should be fine.
I'll post a pic of my build.
Did you ever put yours in an enclosure? _________________ ~Kevin

No, I never did (being the lazy butt that I am). But it seems happy to just hang out where it is. (I did put a plastic bag over it, to keep it dry.)
I really should put it in a box... _________________ '71 panel, now with FI

Hi Telford
Thanks again for sharing your schematic.
I have my parts, and am getting ready to build the buffer circuit.
I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but wanted to clarify one detail.
Pin 5 and 7 on the IC are being ignored, right? _________________ ~Kevin

Correct. The 555 is just being used as a schmitt trigger buffer, not as a timer. _________________ '71 panel, now with FI

Once again, thanks for posting this info. My VDO tach hasn't registered the correct RPMS since I installed it many years ago according to the instructions. Good thing I rely on sound, not the tach, but I knew it shouldn't be wound at 2500 rpms . Now it finally works correctly! _________________ 69 Baja Bug
