I've been using the Hammered Rustoleum on my motors for a few years and love it. Even did it on a Small Block Chevy a few years ago and it held up well there too.
This is an old photo of my VW motor and there have been a lot of changes since then but you can see the Hammered finish.

Probably a dead thread... but are you guys using the High heat paint that's for up to 500F that you have to bake? or just regular 250F paint that you can just spray on without having to bake it in an oven? Thanks in advance! |

Its not needed for the tin. I alternate between the Rustoleum hammered and their "Professional" black (LOVE THAT STUFF). None of the tin gets very hot. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

Hello I am newbie
Is it a risk to paint engine tin in white/ivory color?
I'm planning to paint my engine tin in 2 colors. The face in an engine room/bay all in white/ivory with clear coat finishing. The face at backside (bottom) which facing to engine all in black with hi-temp spray paint.
I need your advice. Is it make the engine runs hotter or not? I want my engine bay clean and light so I need to paint in white/ivory
Thank's for advice
best rgrds

You can paint it any color you wish.
But some better advice is, don't post your question in three different threads. This is probably the most appropriate forum, and I suspect your other posts may get deleted, as it is bad etiquette to ask the same question in multiple places on a single site, as the answers will start accumulating in different discussions. |

Hi Busstom
Thank's for your quick reply. Yes I will paint the tin with color that I choose, if there's no affect in overheating
I already have deleted the other post
Thank you |

Sure. The reality is, it's your car and you should do what you desire, and whatever that is, it's going to be fine. But if you haven't already discovered it, such a question has great potential to set off a firestorm of heated debate 'round these forums, all of which has been exhausted to no end, with no settling of opinion and conflict.
So best to do what your heart desires and enjoy your car!
I'm sure you'll get more input here too. |

The color you paint your engine tin has no effect on the cooling of the engine. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Yes, agree with you. Heated debate has no end:)
Because I'm not experience in knowledge of thermal etc, I will leave my engine tin (bottom's side) with black perhaps absorbs engine's heat better, and the top tin in engine bay with color's I choose.
I'm happy here with all members that care and help me
Thanks again!

Really? Then how can that expensive chrome tin give me the promised 10 HP increase?
