A friend of main gave me a original german bosch distributor vacuum advance # 643 905 205 .

I have a KG 74 with the original engine ( Solex 34PIC3 ) and I want to replace the existing centrifugal advance 009 distributor.

How can I check if is working properly ?

I put new cap, new rotor and new points, what other parts do I need to change ?

Thanks in advance

Beetle 1971 * 1600 Manual Trans

Distributor: VW 113-905-205AJ, Bosch 0231 167 049 > 043-905-205C, 0231 176 028
Can Use: VW 113-905-205AN, Bosch 0231 167 070 or 043-905-205C, 0231 176 028
Points: 01 011
Points Replacement Plate Assy: 1237 110 064
Condensor: 02 054
Rotor: 04 033
Cap: 03 010
Coil: 00 015 (Blue Coil: 00 012)
Vacuum Can: 07 223
Ignition Wires: 09 001
Spark Plug: W8AC
Timing Set At:: 5deg ATDC @ 800-950rpm w/strobe, vacuum hose(s) connected.
Advance/Retard Range: Vacuum: 9-12deg Adv, 11-13deg Ret; Centrifugal: 6-12deg @ 1500rpm, 22-25deg @ 3800rpm

according to your # this is a DVDA distributor and should work well with your 1600. you can run it with the retard side hooked up or not. the advance side should move and hold the point plate just a little bit and the retard side should move and hold the point plate considerably more. the retarded idle timing (pun intended) was just an emissions thing. i'd time it to 30deg total w/o the advance hooked up and see where your idle timing falls to. check total w/ adv hose hooked up @ 35-40deg BTDC & adjust if needed. i use this same unit on my '71 autostick.

Put a hose on it and suck. You should see the points plate move.

Or you can use one of these:

the advance side being the small port that is usually angled downward. the retard side being the big port that points toward the FRONT on the car.

does the shaft spin freely--howz the UP & down play?

I think the number you orginally posted was mis interpreted and you actually have an 043 905 205 / 0231 170 034

Which is what it looks like is correct. A 74 model SVDA and not a DVDA style can. You have the vac hose connected correctly so... time it right and you should be fine.
