Here is a shot from the rear showing the dash and battery box area.

Here is the trim line down the middle of the hood.

I just picked up what I believe to be a Rascal. Everything is identical to yours except the dash. Mine has the same center pop out. But no wing off to the right. Im trying to determine if mine is in fact a Sears Rascal. Anyone know how many were produced? Mine is sunburned bad. Its down to the black gelcoat with only a few spots of the metalflake purple showing.

Keep in mind the Popular Science article is nearly 40 years old. Shocked

Here is another snippet from the PS article:
"The basic vehicle can be built for as little as $1000, or for as much as a few thousand dollars, if you want to install all the deluxe options, an investment of $1500 in parts will give you a vehicle worth about $2500 completely assembled."

In the early 70s my dad, brother and I built a buggy in a long weekend......
Remember we didn’t build the buggys the way we build today. Everything was salvaged from the donor bug. Dad had my brother and I remove and save any nut bolt and screw that could be reused.

No fancy gauges, seats ,shifters , brakes, wheels etc. custom nothing.

Came in fast and cheap but not close as nice as today’s “Restos”.

Absolutely true! Fifty four years after he sold the #2 Monocoque to Dean Batchelor, you can still buy a genuine Meyers Manx directly from Bruce Meyers.

Quality lasts!

That looks very similar to the dash on my buggy. Which I beleive to be an SS Sandshark.
