I TOTALLY lucked out and recently found these three rare kits . Being that it ties both my hobbies together I had to have them.

Pretty cool find. I especially liked the corvair engine with Webers and a header in the Toad. Going to build them or save 'em? Maybe you should "pop a mold".... might be a market amongst the faithful here..... Cool

Honestly would be a cool way to do mockups and paint schemes etc.

Well I consider myself a builder not a collector but at over 300 kits now well it's looking more like a collector than anything. Especially since I haven't built anything since I started my buggy build.
I am seriously considering making some resin duplicates. It's not cheap to do from what I am hearing. Maybe there are other products that can be used. Will have to look into it.
With my luck the kits will be re released and I'll be screwed. Laughing

Some other VW kits I have...

The Manx has already been popped by Jimmy Flintstone. It sells for $19.99 and come with the body, hood and windshield frame. As for the others, no resin caster I know(i also cast resin model parts) does any of the other buggy pieces. IF I can come up with the kit, I am planning on making a mold myself.

Cool, I found one... http://www.hobbyroad.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_47&products_id=173

AND

NB83 Meyers Dune Buggy
Body & Windshield only. Use Revell kit no. 2366 to complete $20.00
http://www.jimmyflintstonestudios.com/others.htm

Problem is it needs the Revel dune buggy kit to complete and they are getting hard to find as well. Crying or Very sad on line I'm sure you could find one somewhere, but locally..............
For the more experienced modeler I'm sure any one of the VW kits could be used. More of a "realistic" build that way. Cool

I have been picking up quite a few of the Revell bug kits to use as donors for those. I am also curious to see if the Gypsy kit would be a better fit. The chassis in it is already shortned and those are usually cheap enough.

Oh, and Brent, didnt see this one in you dune buggy collection. I grabbed one at the last model show I was at.

I'll bet the Gypsy kit would work. As soon as the kits arrive I'll check that out.

Now THAT is cool. Cool Great find!!!!!

PostPosted: Sun Apr 19, 2009 8:24 pm    Post subject: Floorpan fit Reply with quote

Hi,
I have the Gypsy buggy that I was hoping would fit under the AMT Manx...no go at all. The Revell kits have the center tunnel molded into the floorpan as a one-piece unit. The AMT kits (SuperBug) and the Meyers Manx use the shortened floorpan with a separate center tunnel. Let me check through my AMT Manx kits for a floorpan. I have the resin Manx body too and would like a resin floorpan. I'd be willing to lend out my plastic one to have it cast into a mold for others. If there's anything else to include just let me know. These resin floorpans would fetch some money on ebay too.
Aloha!

What would it take to start a model forum? This is right up my alley.

Lucky, I may be interested. Can you take some pics of the pan and let me see what its going to take to cast it. I need a top, bottom and side. I need to see if it has any trap spots. I dont think it would but need to know. May also want to talk to you about the body and windshield too. I think we can possibly offer the body at a cheaper cost.

Thanks for the feed backluckycharm.

It's cool to see so many model builders here.

Keep us posted with the resin floor, I'm interested.

Brent and Dannyt,
Got a bunch of pics shot just a little while ago. I'll be uploading them on my work computer where I can size them down a bit for faster viewing and emailing. This computer I'm on right now has a bleep-load of pictures and music that I uploaded in the past several weeks. I'm putting together a photo album with music for the build of my buggy. That said, this computer is running real slow. Any more pics I add to it is gonna seem like it down-shifted into 1st gear. I did get some good shots of the Gypsy floorpan alongside the Manx floorpan, tops and bottoms, plus the bodies and hoods of the Manx and its resin copy. There may be some trap spots on the sides of the floorpan, but those may be filled solid if need be.
While I was recovering from pelvic surgery in summer of '03, I started a build of the engine from one of the Gypsy kits. It's a tad too big for an AMT Manx kit, maybe the scale is a little off, but it was something I could work on while I was stuck in a wheelchair. Yep,I got a picture of it too. With yellow plug wires and dual carbs...damn, I even scratch-built the cross bar linkage! That was 6 years ago. Right now, I need glasses to see... what I built back then with just my naked eyes! I'll add them all in my next post. That way, the pictures won't cause these pages to stray all the way across the far right margin.
Aloha!
John

If you guys need more pictures just let me know. I'm hoping for a category dedicated to model cars on this site too.

Thanks for all the pics. What I am wondering is if it would be better to try and cast the floor and the tunnel in the first pic as one part instead of two?
