Hi all. I'm a little confused as far as what the fuel tank looks like in a barndoor truck. Does it have the wide filler neck and a wide body like the busses, or is it slimmer like the post barndoor type 2's? I'd also be grateful if someone could show me a good picture of the '55 barndoor truck fuel tap. Thanks a million! _________________ 98 Cavalier Z24

Isn't it also a "truck only" tank? What is the difference? I havn't looked at mine that closely yet. |

It's the same tank as 53-55 barndoor with the neck moved more to the center. You can make it if you need too. |

Rocker hole for the reserve rod? Does anyone have a pic of this piece that hasnt rusted off the bus? Both my '54 s/c's dont have anything left of this area, i'd love to pop it back the way it's meant to be. _________________ To catch a fish, you must first think like a fish.... |

you mean the hole for the church key? Or the linkage behind that to the tap? I've got all and can take pictures. Do you need measurements too? |

Here you go. bottom picture has the tape measure hooked in the bottom of the gas filler door opening - measures 11.125 to center of hole. top picture is hooked in the treasure chest opening - measures 5.25 to center of hole. The hole is 13/16" in diameter. I'm also interested in the rod. Mine has it, but a friends doesn't. Any ideas for making this part? Take a round tube and hammer a square rod into the end?

Thats perfect Rick, thank you!
A square rod gently tapped in the end while pressing the flat sides in should do the job I think. _________________ To catch a fish, you must first think like a fish.... |

I seem to remember John Jones taking some pics of this area also in the thread/gallery on his BD single build up. If you look in the gallery there are photos of the tank brackets, etc also.
I believe he had to make a tank for his too, and used part of a beetle tank? |

Can anybody help me with a picture for the floor-to-tank single bolt support for a 60mm fuel tank in the neck side, like the single one showed in the picture.
My car came without this support neither the tank had it.

Would the measurement of the location of the filler hole on the long side panel be the same between RHD and LHD SC’s that.
(26A 261 Pick-up, tool compartment lid right, LHD
26B 264 Pick-up, tool compartment lid on left, RHD) |

The “filler” hole for the fuel tank is on the short wall side. Always. And, yes it is the same size. There is no LHD fuel tank and RHD fuel tank they are the same. _________________ www.blastserv.com

Thanks for your reply. I read through your restoration of the 54 RHD SC. Good work. I am also fortunate to own a 54 RHD SC.
I was drooling over your NOS side panel.
The reason for my question was I ordered one from Autocraft and when it arrived it was without the filler hole.
They weren't aware that it was on the oppositie side of the LHD but was more than willing to make one if I gave them measurements.
So was curious if the left panel with the filler hole was a mirror image of the right one? |

Thanks for the comment!
Yes! The NOS panel was one of my favorite finds for the truck. Mine was wasted badly!! Remember the Wolfsburg gas door seal detail when having them make it. It takes the one long seal not the two bumpers.
The panel should be a mirror image as the gas tank is situated in the same spot just on the opposite side. I know Klassic Fab makes or made the tank mounts that weld to the floor. The whole floor for those trucks are specific to RHD Barndoor truck. So many details to get right.
