Hi all. Look at what happened to me over the weekend . I posted these pics in the Body/Paint forum but thought I would post it here as well to see what your thoughts are about this damage being fixable.. I'm no expert when it comes to body work but it seems like these dents/etc can be fixed. Take a look:
This pic doesn't really show how the body under my deck lid was pushed in.

Pop the dents out with a hammer and dolly. There's no serious creasing, so filler shouldn't be an issue. Check out John Kelly's techniques at http://www.ghiaspecialties.com _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Thanks for the input.. Fortunately the guy who hit me has insurance. I'll be meeting with the Geico guy and a body shop this week to get an estimate to have it fixed. |

Try to find someone who has worked on a Ghia before. You'll be much happier. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

You're lucky that the persons insurance is going to cover it. This happened to my car in a parking lot about 3 years ago, and I never found out who was responsible.

I have to say, the dents are definite fixable. My opinion would be to make sure that the paint job is right. Probable need to do the whole car?
I used to have a tall bright orange flag on my go-cart when I was a kid so people could see me. I really think these Ghias need the same thing when parked. Lots of really tall vehicles around these days and I'm sure nobody can see a Ghia when in close quarters.
I hope your car gets fixed right. |

Sorry this happened to you. Definately repairable by a reputable repair facility or a qualified person. Painting the whole car will not be necessary. If you haven't done it already , start locating N.O.S. parts and have the info ready (printed out ads or anything proving the cost) for the Geico adjuster. Take advantage of the rental car allowance as well ... weather you actually need a rental vehicle or can benefit from it monetarily. |

Anywhere from $395 from Maaco to 2 or 3 thousand... I disagree on needing a full repaint, unless you don't know the paint code, a competent painter with paint code in hand can match and blend that no problem Bummer _________________ '63 KG Roadster proj.

Oh my god, that is exactly what happened to me! Some evil woman in a mini van backed in to the rear quarter of my 68! That was 2 1/2 years ago and the car is still in the shop. Of course we ended up doing a full restoration. It is amazing how a small repair can snowball.
I have a great body guy in the Philly area if anyone need a name. |

The question was "What's the cost of a paint job on the whole Ghia these days?[/quote] " not "whats the cost of a GOOD paint job"
I guess I should have started with $15 bucks for four spray cans and THEN moved to a couple thousand for you to get my joke.
I would have said $99 bucks at Earl Sheib but figured there were way too many young bucks here to know what the hell I was talking about... _________________ '63 KG Roadster proj.

I just got mine back and paid $9,400. Not cheap but it looks great. The body was off the car and I had everything painted. |

I finally got the car back and wanted to post some pics.. it looks great. My original plan was to only have the rear of the car fixed - well, one thing let to the next and I had the shop fix the saggy doors.... then i figured 'why not take care of the minor dings and paint chips on the front of the car'. Unfortunately the guy who did the previous resto was a master bondo sculptist because after the car was stripped we discovered that it needed major repair - 2.5 months later here it is.. Thanks a ton Kombi Haus of Sacramento!
