|

I don't see my particular problem in the stickies so here goes.
While messing with the front suspension, the speedo cable was inadvertantly pulled out of the spindle enough so the end of the cable is inside the spindle and I can't grip the end of the cable. On the backside of the assembly is a rubber seal holding the cable ,with 30 years of rust, and I can not push the cable back into the spindle. Can I just burn the rubber seal out of there to allow the cable to go back in? Will the heat harm anything inside the armour coated speedo cable? Thanks |

Did you take off the grease cap and try to get it?
I myself would put penatraing oil on the rubber seal and push the cable back in with the grease cap off, then seat it in the grease cap when I put the cap back on again. |

Thanks for the tip but anxious as I am I found the outer plastic sheath of the cable had adhered to the ancient rubber plug and would not push in. Some WD40 or oil as you suggested would probably have worked. As it turned out a little heat freed the cable,I pushed it back though and now again I have a speedo.
This web site is great for info as I found pictures in the stickies that shows a cotter pin retains the cable from slipping inside the grease cap. Alas, mine had no such pin and that was the source of my problem. Love and best wishes to the previous owner! |
