the smiths gauge is slightly smaller then the t3 fuel gage by an 1/16 of an inch or so in diameter. _________________ Frank

VDO is on the glass,..the fine scratches are only visible in a camera flash. _________________ Frank

I was thinking it would be nice if the painted lines and lettering were not on the plastic lens and then you wouldn't have to put something over the hole.
I got mine cut at the glass shop for free when they found out it was for a classic car. They were working on their hot rod in the back. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

I might have a couple T3 tachs completed in time for the Seattle vintage swapmeet. I already copied the face design to make a few Baywindow tachs which are all completed now, and I already have some 12 Volt VDO tachometer movements, so the main thing is hunting down some mint T3 fuel gauges to build the T3 tachs out of. If I do finish them on time, they will be expensive. Here's one of the finished Bay tachs

I recently had to go to North Hollywood Spedometer to get the hard-to-find 12mm size VDO heat thermocouple and I immediately learned that they are the real-deal. When I was there, they were restoring old aviation altimeters, a 20's era Dusenburg spedometer (I think), and a couple guys huddled around one of the smallest little gauges I'd ever seen, must have been only 3/4" in diameter. Anywho, they at least appeared to know what they were doing! |
I emailed them. for what I wanted done they said they could not take on a job like that with the work load they have on atm |

grave digging one of the longest posts here that seemingly never went anywhere
until 2015
for sure, some (most?) of you know that ISP west finally released their repop of the type 3 VDO style tachometer, red needle, white needle, and black face later style. I was bummed that they were 12v only, but I also know that Mario is working on a Gossen style, 6v and 12v.
I bought a white needle, knowing that some day I will buy or build a nice Pigalle car. The white needle sold out right away, as I figured. I started thinking about it, and purchased a red needle as well, for my '63. I figured I would try a 6v to 12v step up converter that they make for old cars with more modern radios
I got the white needle at the end of May, the red needle and the step up converter last week. I got a little garage time yesterday so decided to try my luck.
It works on 6v. No step up needed. I couldn't be happier, especially with the super low price.

So I was fortunate to grab one of the white needle ones right away.
It's here and looks really nice. But the needle is pointed at 3k or so. I'm used to the style where the needle rests on a pin at 0. Are these different somehow? I'm assuming when I plug it in it will all be well, but just wondering how the thing works. _________________ 69 Fastback Build

I noticed in the ad none of the needles were resting in the same position- but in Erik's videos they seem to be working correctly. I wish I had grabbed one or two of the white needle ones but I wasn't sure if I could get them to work on 6v. _________________ 1964 Notchback
