First and foremost I wanted to thank Mr. Barnes for creating
and facilitating such a great website! I have been a member for over a
year now, ever since I purchased my 1967 Squareback. I’m on Samba
nearly every day, searching and educating myself. Unfortunately, I
have ran into my first issue. I purchased some interior, including
panels, seat covers and door panels parts from user *sharkskinman *for $240.00.
I sent money through Paypal immediately. He then told me that he will
be shipping the item ASAP. A week passed so I called him to confirm
shipment, he said that his friend who worked for UPS had shipped the package but could not give me a confirmation because his friend was out of town. So a few weeks passed and no package. I called him again and he told me that he could not locate his friend. I was being patient because he was answering my calls and it seemed like he was an honest guy like most vw’ers. After a month and still no package, he felt bad and said that he would send me some seatbelts to make up for all the time wasted, and I said that was cool. I never received the seatbelts nor the package and tried calling him over and over. So I suggested he return my money, since he wasn’t able to provide a confirmation and since he didn’t follow through. Yesterday I received an e-mail from him stating that he is not going to refund my money because he thinks that I received the package and that I’m lying. I was shocked, after being extremely patient with *sharkskinman *he was accusing* *of being dishonest. Now, I know that I purchase items off the Samba at my own risks but there should be no place for members like *sharkskinman. I’ve been a Vw’er since I was young, it’s been in my family forever. One aspect of the community that I enjoy is the love and respect for one another in the VW world. No matter where you’re from were honest and loyal to each other. I would personally ban him, there is no room for members like sharkskinman on the samba.. Plus, unless SHARKSKINMAN man's up, Im out 240.00 hard earned dollars!!! Paypal only covers 45 days, after this "You're on your own", beware!!!

is your PayPal funded by a credit card or just your bank account? if it is funded by a credit card, file a charge dispute now... if he cannot provide proof that it shipped, such as a UPS confirmation number (which is always available from UPS, it is all on him to prove that it shipped...

from your story, it doesn't sound like he even knows whether or not his friend shipped your stuff or not...

He cannot provide Tracking info. And UPS cannot look up any info without tracking #. I tried looking up my address, nothing. Unfortunately, my paypal is directly to my bank account. I dont know what to do at this point.

small claims court...

granted, hindsight is 20/20, but if I don't get a shipping number or a part within a reasonable time (a month is too long), I call bullshit and get my money back...

Actually, you can refund all of the money and it's what you can do. You have zero proof the items were shipped and keep using your "friend" as a patsy.

Time to swallow your pride and do the right thing and use this as a learning experience for future transactions (ie. If you want something done and done right you do it yourself).

It's easy to figure out!

You can not prove the item was sent and can not prove it was received, why because you failed to acquire the tracking number.

Refund all his money!

That sucks you can't get a hold of him but it's still your responsibility as the seller. As I said in an email, I have seen people post in the past that they called UPS and had them provide a tracking # given the destination or source address.

You say you sent it, he says it didn't arrive so there is always the possibility it was lost and a claim needs to be filed. You need to assist with this as well.

Thank you to all Samba members who are taking time to respond. I never received a tracking number, I never received a package, I never received seatbelts that were promised, and Im still trying to contact him through the phone and no answer. All I wanted was interior for my 67 sqbck, nothing more nothing less. Payment was made the day of the sale in full for 240.00. Hard earned money!!! Now I dont expect to ever receive a package, and all I can do is HOPE that sharkskinman, man's up and pays me in full, even minus paypal fees. I just dont get how he wants to negotiate or work with me? I never received anything? I dont get it! If anything, this was a very expensive and unfortunate lesson. I honestly feel that there is no room for members like SHARKSKINMAN on the samba, a place where VW enthusiats can trust and honor one another!!!

I have contacted UPS and they need a tracking number. I asked them if they can look up my address, and they said no. Ive tried calling Mr. Mcmillan aka sharkskinman several times, leaving him messages and still no reply. No e-mail, no call from him, nothing.

Ignore any e-mails you get from him wanting to buy stuff. He "had to have" my Type 3 lift kit and kept e-mailing me about it while I was out of town. I told him I could figure shipping out after I got back. I sent him shipping info when I returned and didn't hear from him. I sent it again 2 days later. Still didn't hear from him so I PM'd him. He said he would have payment to me in a couple of days. I wait a couple days and get no payment, so I PM'd him again. He said he would PayPal by the end of the week. Today he PMs me and tells me he's not going to buy it. Thanks for wasting my time Randall. In the meantime, I've told a couple other people it's sold. Rolling Eyes

does that mean you'll provide him with a tracking number to prove it was shipped? or refund his money?

it isn't either one of those, why not?

I just bought a set of type-3 mirrors from Spoon. Everything went as planned and the mirrors arrived alive (packed well) and were as advertised.

I would buy from this seller again.

I bought a set of reverse lights from Spoon. He shipped them the next day, and they were packaged to survive a nuclear fallout. I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks,
