It is an elk. The french word is wapati and it's the name of the campground in Jasper, where we were, as well.

My two girls were in the upper bunk. My youngest telling my oldest that there was an elk in front of the van. Since she had been playing "monkeys always look" for 10000kms my older daughter wouldn't look.

My wife has had two close encounters with elk at this campground. One in 97 and then the night before this picture. She was nervous for sure.

Brian.

I figured it was an aboriginal word but I wasn't certain. You think I could have looked it up while I was sitting in front of this resource that is a computer. Lazy is as lazy does.

The french use it as well...the ones I live with and call my family. I call them wapati because I like the word. Wapati...wapati...see what I mean?

Brian.

My wife thanks you for correcting me...it's a endless job and she's grown weary.

Is elk spelled correctly?

Brian.

Asking how much it can tow isn't fair since that trailer would obviously have trailer brakes! Cool mod having an air system on a Vanagon. Now you can upgrade to air ride suspension.

Without trailer brakes I wouldn't even try it!

Is that a 1 7/8" ball or a 2"?
Very Happy

Typical Route 66 scene at the AZ/NM border: Adobe trading post, AirStream pulled by a Hummer, teepees, giant billboards and...say, Marge...what's that hippie guy doing?
