I don't think that cost is much of an issue in deciding who to buy from after it becomes apparent that the seller is in the business of punishing and insulting his customers.
Its customer service 101, Terry: and from reading this thread, I can't see a single reason in this world why I'd ever want to do business with you. Wow. Just wow.
I'll put it another way. I don't fly United Airlines any more - haven't for years. They actually do offer competitive pricing and service, but I have found that on the three occasions where something went wrong, they failed to stand behind their service. For me, its worth paying a few more bucks elsewhere and know that there's a better chance of being treated right when something goes wrong.
But you, Terry, you've decided that if it leaves your shop, the product is by definition perfect and there's no room for discussion. You'd rather blame and publicly berate the customer instead of quietly reaching a solution.
I'm assuming that you have competition, so based on this thread alone, I'd go with somebody else without question. Just my .02, of course.

Lesson in lIfe;
The guy that makes a big deal about he's going elsewhere should.
He is usually the wheel without the grease, and will do the most screaming when the timing is right.
In a matter of fact most of the bitching has beeen done by bystander's that I have never have heard of--and maybe don't want to.
Thanks for the heads up on your intentions.
While you've joined the Vanagon War dance with the other non-participants, life goes on in the big City, and I am really too tied up with parts I'm manufacturing for excellent, positive thinking clientel, who are actually responsable enough to cover their butts with declaired shipping insurance.
It's the minority who try and take the low road, and whine the most when they crap out and get an empty box, or damaged goods without any recourse.
The best is--then they try & blame me for their big tactical error & poor judgement call.
Sorry folks, It ain't gonna happen, any way you try and twist this one around. _________________ T.K. |

So you're saying that this whole four pages is the minority? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Four pages of the same folk (some without any important bearing to any of the situations at hand--like yourself for instance,) blowing smoke is slim picken's in my book.
Yea--a miniscule minority if that's how you want it.
And, for 12--15 years of manufacturing & making obscure Vanagon parts available--this ain't squat.
A little bump in the road is the best annology. _________________ T.K. |

Wow 4 pages of "bad juju" and nobody has a decent thing to say about Terry Kay....?
WELL......I ordered some carat curtain screw posts from Terry...even though I hated to....cause I only needed 1 and it's hiding here somewhere...regardless, Terry made the transaction very simple and my parts arrived in a timely manner and were exactly as described.
Mahalo Terry.

Just received my can of panel wax from Terry. It was packed REALLY well and arrived in a timely fashion. Had I known about the buyer/seller forum a while back, I would've mentioned the water pump I ordered from Terry. It to came well packaged and in a respectable time frame. Thanks Terry. Now if he'd only send cookies or a sticker...... _________________ 91 CARAT |

Believe me I try and make everbody happy--
Soemtimes it's a frutal attempt--
No cookies , no sticker's--
But I do have a supply of pink & yellow Peeps I think I start sending out with the parts---
Then folks will be sending me their dentist bills---
Another no win deal---
Glad ya got the panel wax in a prudent manner--it's good stuff and runs deep into the doubled up panels ends before it turns semi hard.
It slows down the inevitable rusting problems big time.

I want to report that the new shift shaft bushings that TK is offering are far superior to any other product I have found to be available, and arrived in a very timely manner.
He also offered valuable information when I called him regarding the installation.
Excellent Vanagon parts distributor, good source of information, and has parts available that can't be found anywhere in here in the US that are delivered fast.
I am very happy with my new found shift linkage mechanism operation.
Thanks TK. _________________ Ron |

Purchased some propane hardware from Terry. Very fast shipping. One item was incorrect and he promptly exchanged it. Good communications as well. _________________ 1979 Type 2 Westy Deluxe 2.0L FI |

I just purchased a pair of gray vinyl Vanagon headrests from Terry last week and they arrived in a timely fashion, well-packed and just as described.
They have already been prepped, taped and SEM painted landau black to go into my new Tristar interior. _________________ -1989 Syncro Tristar TDi on Air Ride

I just bought some power door lock parts for a Vanagon sliding door from Terry.
Parts were pulled from his parts van and shipped quickly, packed well, and arrived in good condition. E-mail inquiry was replied to in a timely fashion.
No complaints, I'd buy from him again. |

Be aware TKs business tactics are brutal and not conducive to customer satisfaction. I was a customer but am no longer and am no longer recommending him to Mid South Vanagoners. TK sold me a radiator fan switch resistor for my '84 and told me it should be behind the drivers side head light bucket. NO SUCH part exists in the Bentley for this model year. TK then informed me that he could not be responsible for what the P.O. had done when I told him I was unable to find the resistor that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place. I didn't even request a return when he put the onus on the previous owner. TK also ignored me and a fellow vanagoner when we inquired if he had the two straighter drivers side muffler hangers he was advertising. Not conducive to customer satisfaction or good business.

This guy is a headcase. Unbelievably rude. I would never do any kind of business with this abrasive fool. If you find the need to return anything, you will find yourself the receiver of his pent up rage. His claim to have sold VW parts for 20 years does not entitle him to spout his crap at hapless buyers who make the mistake of doing business with him. BUYER BEWARE |

I went to Terry for the heater core and the firewall fuel line connector.
Everything was shipped quickly, well packaged and complete. Heater is a perfect fit, and the firewall piece is well designed and finished.
He responded to my emails/questions reasonably quickly (I assume he has a job and a life which prevents him from responding as quickly as dedicated businesses, so I felt his communication was well within expectations).
I'll note that when I ordered I included the insurance ~ it's inexpensive and removes the whole "it's your problem" issue when something goes wrong.
I'll likely order from TK again ~ got my eye on some steel cooling lines...

As a mere word of warning. I wish to report the heater shut off valve that I bought from TK was poorly put together and in fact leaked from both threads at the body of the valve. After a careful disassembly and teflon tape of both threads and reassembly it performs fine. However the question is....why was that not done first....when it was put together....then PAINTED OVER with a textured black paint. Hmmmm....for the thirty plus dollars with shipping I would imagine 15 cents of teflon tape would have been easy.
Sorry to say...my money shall be spent elsewhere from herein. Shame isn't it? Such a small community we are to have one in our midst that feels goods such as this are "acceptable".
Over and out!

The best line in a movie is when Jack mentioned to Rose he was going to write a stern letter to White Star Lines about the Titanic sinking as he was freezing his gonads off holding onto the headboard they were floating on.
And as amazed as he was , so too am I.
I never got one message concerning this issue, until this kindly public notation.
I don't have a turbin, crystal ball, nor am I the Great Karnak.
I use teflon paste, this is the first valve that has leaked on anyone in 15 years--and I don't know why, what when or how, as Snidley Whiplash has decided to bitch to the Microphone instead of direct.
Oh Well---you think your on some kind of entitlement program?
No communication?
--don't bitch--
You chose to handle it your way Frank--instead ot the correct way. _________________ T.K. |

.....and your response to this post does not surprise me one bit considering your history.
I am glad I was prepared for what turned out to be failure. It was fixed with quickly and I moved on....much like I am now.
Have fun in your world Terry as your customer base continues to dwindle. |

Sorry I'm not telepathic.
I didn't know that I might have missed slopping on the goop.
You never pounded on your keyboard & cried to me personally.
You took care of the 2 minute job, plus the right to whine here.

I ordered 2 gaskets from Terry on May16th. I emailed him several times asking if he received my payment and when they might ship. No response.
Only to look today to find out he refunded my money with no explaination.
You got to be kidding me. You can't write an email to explain yourself? I will never do business with this guy and tell everyone to BEWARE |
