|
|
I have called every place in San Diego for a Tach./Dwell Meter and either they do not know what it is (one Napa, and other not sure but checked the store), do not have it, or want over $35. I need it to set the idle on an engine, and cannot do it by ear do to too much exhaust/engine noise.
I have checked all the places in San Diego for a sync tool and all the places want over $45 for it.
Have been trying for two days and many miles, and no luck. Sunday I will need these, or will have to cancel. There has to be one of each somewhere in San Diego, but where? I cannot think of any places to bowwow these, but rather own them.
Going to check on line, but do not think they will make it before Wednesday.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Bill, thank you! I said I would check other sources, and I found that. I also found the same brand vacuum meter for $12! Now, have to decide which shipping to get... |
Adriel if you come by tomorrow between 12-4 you can get mine and use for a few days. jack _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof

and after shipping he'll still spend more than 35.
I'm sorry Adriel but I dont know where you got this idea about what things actually cost. tools frequently are more expensive than 35.
the good news is a tach/dwell meter is not one of those tools. Go to Walmart or sears, they have a squarish one that I have seen as low priced as 15 dollars. its the same one I have and it rocks.
the sync on the other hand, should be about 26-30 dollars. _________________ 71 Squareback-FI -- 73 Bay (subaru powered)

Thank you so very much! Snap On are expensive, so surprised to see them on Ebay for that price. Who knows how high it will go, though.

It qualifies for free shipping. Amazon is real good about getting it to you A.S.A.P. and under estimated time.
I get figures from theSamba, friends, going to stores, calling place after place, and sometimes the internet.
I have rarely paid $40 for a tool. Most I get below $20, and they are Craftsman, with a couple Harbor Freights (can be better than Craftsmen).
I went to Sears, and it was only for 6 and 8 cylinders for almost $40. I have wanted to get your model for a long time. Hold onto it, because it is no longer available.
I doubt one can get a sync locally for that: they all cost $45 and up. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Yeah, my son got his tach/dwell meter from walmart. I think the price was 19.99. You do know there's another carb synch tool called a "uni-syn" don't you? It's not a snail shaped tool, but rather a flat plate with a thermometer looking device on top (that folds) with a screw type air defector. This is the style Russ Wolfe and I, and others use, and similar to what VW shows in their techincal pages. It's very easy to use, and made out of aluminum. I use a number 1 main bearing for a spacer to clear the air cleaner hold down stud on my Solex carbs. The spacer isn't needed on webers. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

This is the syn tool I have been using since before I started working on VW's. Prior to working for VW, I drove cars with SU carbs.

As for tachs that only do 6 and 8 cyl., you can do the math on the 8 cyl. scale.
I have an Equus? meter I will sell you for $10 plus the shipping. Brand new, never been used. Has Tach, Dwell, volt and amp meter. 4-6-8 cyl.
It does have 1 broken ground clip that might have to be replaced.
I bought it as an estate sale.

Yup, this is the same one I was trying to decsribe above. I've had mine for 20 years now, and still use it. Mine has "uni-syn" marked on the top of the plate. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

the one at walmart is the one I own, which apparently is no longer carried by Sears.
Adriel, get it at walmart. its the same one I have and I love it. ive seen it on sale as low as 15, but i guess the reg. price is 20. still a cheap alternative and I like that has a large needle scale instead of digital stuff.
also, look at the uni-syn they're talking about-- I thought it wouldn't work on webers but Bob I have it the other way around apparently. if you can find the uni-syn, get it- personally I feel like its more user friendly than the sort of "one size fits all" snail tool. _________________ 71 Squareback-FI -- 73 Bay (subaru powered)
