I have a 1958 split window and I need the connecting rod that connects the door lock mechanism to the remote. No where I can buy a pair and how is the connecting rod connected to the mechanism and the remote??? Please help. I threw the assembly away by mistake. The assemblies were in a box and the boxes were thrown out
Thanks,

What type of rivets are those?
I purchased new door lock mechanisms and remotes for my front doors of my 1958 split window. I was able to purchase just the connecting rods that connect the door lock mechanism to the remote. I want to know the type and size of the rivets on the OEM assembly of the door lock mechanism and remote and where I can purchase them. Also, I know it is not a regular rivet tool that is used, Anyone have any information on the type and size of these rivets? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank You!!!

Solid rivets.
Steel I assume.

The rivets in the photo above appear to be just hammered flat, similar to how you install hubcap clip rivets, if you are familiar with that process. _________________ How to Post Photos

it's a special stepped rivet. it has a VW part number, which almost always means it is not an "off the shelf" type part. VW part number 111 837 199
yes, they are steel (magnetic).
under #24 on this page http://oacdp.freeweb7.com/5867part/437.png
Overall length approximately 8.8mm
Approximate width of head 10.04mm. approximate head thickness 1.5mm
Approximate width of the shaft that fits through the rod 4.96mm. approximate height of that section is 4mm.
Approximate width of the part that gets peened 3.96mm. approximate height of that section 3.5mm

Looks like a job for a bolt and a nylock nut to me
Nice calipers Hazetguy, and metric too, vintage stuff is always better. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

This site is golden. My remote fell off the other day and I'd like to get my hands on one of those rivets. Anyone have spares or now who to contact? I've rigged a temporary bolt and nut until I find a more permanent solution.
Thanks! _________________ 1957 Std., Mostly Stock. |

If genuine VW ones are not available, you might try checking mcmastercarr.com. They have a great selection of rivets. You might find something that will work. Who cares if it looks exactly the same? No one will ever see it. |

|
|
Been searching these forums all day for this info, seeing a bunch of people that experienced the same lock issues I did, but I actually need the door lock rod clip, and I can't find them anywhere. I want to post pictures to make sure I'm asking for the right part, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about I would sure appreciate some help. The bus looks totally ghetto when you roll up somewhere and have to open the window to get out! Any help appreciated. |
