Among the wheels that fit numerous questions, some also asked about lug nuts and bolts when switching to wheels other than OEM on **their** van.
So although it is probable that everyone saw this, I still thought I would post it for those like myself who are allergic to **The News**

A car traveling on a motorway in Switzerland lost all four wheels simultaneously, coming to an immediate halt in the middle of the highway, police said on Saturday.
The car had just stopped and the passengers had changed from winter to summer wheels themselves, a common task in Switzerland where there is plenty of snow in winter, but used the wrong nuts when mounting the new set.

I like to check the torque on the wheels once a month when I am checking the air pressure. It never changes but at least I know that.

Since you are there anyway.

What is it about incorrect nuts that makes them fall off? Pardon my ignorance...

I think there has to be something more than just the wrong nuts. We have been using the wrong nuts on my dad's passat's summer tires for 8 years before finding the other bolt set hidden behind a panel. Never had any problems.

It's also one absolutely incredible trick if they lost all four tires simultaneously even if they were TRYING TO and had only tightened the incorrect nuts finger tight.

I've lost a main landing gear on an airplane before, missing cotter pin. Landing on the stub is fun, luckily it was a Navy plane and we took a field arrestment.

All four at once would be trick, sounds more Hollywood. Then again, if it was Hollywood, wouldn't it have blown up after the wheels came off?

When I was a young teenager, I changed a tire for my Mother on the side of the road. Only being familiar with knockoffs and acorn nuts, I didn't think there was a wrong way to put on lug nuts… so I just tightened the hell out of them, and saved the day.

Little did I know, I had put them on flat side in, instead of tapered side in. Two miles later, my mom had to pull over because of a god awful noise and shake. I tightened them up, and we went three more miles.

The third time around, some old man pulled up and pointed out that I was doing it wrong. Ooops.
