Matthew-Did you factor in the advantage of the Carbon Fiber Radio Block-Off? I can only assume that it was responsible for a significant portion of your blistering pass!

Heres some pictures of my secound sump. This one I made shorter not as deep as the first one and left the inside with the casted finish. I think I`m getting closer to what I`m looking for and the machining is getting easyer.
Now if Matthew had this I sure a record would have been broken for years to come.
PS. Did the bike set any records on the flats?

For how many pictures were taken of it? Yes. I rode it all the way down by the starting line, it ran real good. Got lot of pictures taken when I had my Russian radiation goggles on.......they give anyone the "Dr.Evil" look. Great looking sump, you're having too much fun!

Mark,
It`s getting alittle cold so I`ve been working on my 1964 wheel horse 654 in the basement and selling stupid shit on ebay to pay for my vintage habit. Sometime all you have to do is look around and there money hanging everywhere and people will buy it for crazy prices. I do have a good oil sump that I may put on a engine thats ready to build (all new parts tin painted just here saying build me) but I got this wheel horse shit going right now. It will all get there in time.

First to ask about the weight so here it is 5.1 lbs. The Gene Berg 36hp sump is 6.8 that I have.

Guteandtite,
No baffle and I haven`t even cut the studs for the pan yet or poured anything in the last 3 months. The last covers I sold were to Hank Young (Coppers & Hot Rods) here in Atlanta. He`s building a 36hp judson bug that will be kickass when finished and his work is amazing and a great guy to shoot the shit with.

Daddybus,
They just used a gasket as far as I know to seal them (never had or seen a real one).

PS. I still have a couple sets of covers left if anyone wants them (that I kept for my engines can make more) but the oil sumps I still need to keep for measurements. I`m bad about writing anything down and file cabinet (brain) is getting alittle full. But I think the next one will be ready for someone to test in racing conditions and the only two salt flat crazy nuts that come to mind would be Ronnie & Matthew.

I've been following this thread since the first post. Melting metal has always been a dream of mine. I mentioned it to a buddy of mine. He invited me to his house and gifted me with a home-brew foundry that a friend of his had built.-

It certainly isn't much to look at and the blower motor won't work. But after I figured out how it all goes together and fired it up (using my shop-vac) it worked flawlessly! Here it is glowing cherry red-

I spent a couple of hours making ingots in a cupcake pan for future use-

I don't think I will be tackling valve covers just yet. But I have an idea for a copy of an Australian gas pedal that I had on my old DC which I am very sorry I sold with the truck. faster, see what you've started!

Faster,
Just stumbled upon this thread and read all nine pages.
Big props to you for sticking with this. Look at all you've learned.
Great old lathe and cool tractor project. Cool everything! Wish you were my neighbor so I could check all this stuff out.
