Here's alittle update. Haven't poured anything in about 4 months but after reading about all the high rockers being tested it was time to fire up the foundry and make a few changes to the racer covers. I always wanted to add some thicker metal in a few areas for vent plumbing for the big engines but just never got around to it. So I got busy and added three which should cover any plumbing for any engine I hope. The first that I poured I didn't even fit them to my engine just sent them off to Ronnie so I hope they fit and have plenty of metal for drilling and taping. Also need to get back on the sump its so close I'm sure it would work as is but need to make small changes to make it easyer on me or find someone else to do it ( no time here). Also some sad news Zeus called it quits at 15 1/2 which really suprised me being in the shape he was in the last year. But not bad for never having a shot or high dollar dog food in his whole life he will be missed and may go back on the valve covers. I also have been working on the 59 panel with the 36 hp and if I could cut my sleep time down from 7 to 6 hour I may be able to get some of these done LOL. Here's some pictures of what been going on here in Ga.
stripping and priming the 59 bugout bus
rims paint new clips $310 for tires
And the new valve covers with plumbing tits

Got the new covers, they are awesome and love the vent boses. These will go on the 1482 Bonneville 36 hp engine. Will test fit on the head tomorrow and drill/tap to install the breather fitting.

So I have been playing in the sand alittle bit trying to make things just to see if I could. But mosty now that the weathers nice I've been cutting and welding on the 59 panel it's what got me started on the 36 hp madness in the first place. Maybe this year if all go well I finish up a few of the round oil sumps after the Honey Do List gets finished. Sometime I have to remind myself that I do have a great wife if not she will.
Vaughn just to let you know your drawings kick ass make me some patterns.
Some of the see if I could. And alot of pictures to look at just for fun.

you da man!!! hunny doo's do have a way of geting in the way.I tiled my home this last year, remoldeled 1 bathroom, riped out the front door this last weekend and it's almost done with a new one on there a lot better than the old one and the list go's on. for me I would do the casting in the winter if I could& use the heat to heat the shop(with the doors open,I would think it gets pretty hot)
Ive looked at some guys smelters and some have a blower some dont.I wonder how much diff it makes.I saw one that melted the burner tube, that wouldnt be much fun, I think I would like the non blower or a small blower.I just need to get my but in gear & do it. it sure is good to hear you too have a great wife. |

I like the color and texture of your sand. I also like the grooves in your boxes to hold the sand. I gotta try that. I am just getting started and am having a blast. I used charcoal for my first two attempts. I just wanted to melt some aluminum and pour it just to see if I could. I poured about a cup full into a cornbread mold. I was surprised at how beautiful the metal is when its melted.
Your numbering and wording looks dam perfect. I'm surprised to see "racer" instead of "faster" on those valve covers. My goal is to create some tall Nicson style fins (3 big fins) on a few pieces. But I am still learning. I really like looking at your pictures, it helps greatly. Thanks for schooling me. Learning alot. |

I use a big shop-vac on my foundry. The flow is controlled by a gate valve. The whole thing looks pretty jerry-rigged and I am planning on neatening everthing up, but it works great! I really like the radio trim plate.
What do you all use for casting sand? Do you make your own with sand and kitty litter or is it available nearby? _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon
