Not really sure what the advantage of that is. It's a huge keg full of asbestos that gets your pots covered in soot. All so you can cook with twigs?
Camp fuel is cheap and burns clean. If you are really cheap, make a popcan alcohol stove.
Plus, you have to buy $40 of shitty beer. You could buy a nice stove for that money! |

I'm just stating an alternative, someone might find it useful. It's fun to build and cook with, and is very efficient. Can full of asbestos? Not sure if vermiculite contains asbestos but you can use any insulation material... perlite, clay, ash... And a simple wet cloth gets off any soot build up.
You do not have to use kegs, coffee cans will work. You can also make it any size to fit your needs. The one I made was free, any restaurant will have empty cans to throw away. _________________ 1985 SVX powered Westy - soon to be converted to syncro

I'm not trying to pick on you personally, but Vermiculite IS asbestos.
I'm not sure how they still get away with selling it. It's good in gardens because the microscopic sharp edges repel slugs and snails....and cut your lung tissue.
In Libby MT, they made the base paths on the local ball fields out of soil containing vermiculite. Turns out, not such a good idea. |

Vermiculite in its pure form does not contain asbestos. However, if the vermiculite is mined from earth that also contains asbestos, well then there you have it. Many retailers stopped carrying asbestos for this reason, even though it was only vermiculite sourced from a few mines that had problems. _________________ 1986 Westfalia |

Well thanks for the heads up, I had no idea. I'll be getting rid of my bag of vermiculite now I'd rather be safe and not take the chance. _________________ 1985 SVX powered Westy - soon to be converted to syncro

I just looked that up. It seems the Libby, MT mine was the exception, not the norm. I assumed they mined the vermiculite and processed it into commercial asbestos.
Sorry for the massive derail.
