I'm thinking of buying a Renegade shell and was wondering if anyone knows what the original windshield used was (US version, not the British one).

I seem to be remember 'back in the day' being told that the Renegade was a close relation to the Bounty Hunter which I belive used a Renault Dauphine screen and looking at photos they do look similar, but can anyone comfirm this?

Can't answer your question about what windshield it is, but it sure looks like the same Dauphine windshield and windshield posts as the Deserter GT. Check out the Deserter club forum here:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/deserterownersgroup/

Just post a question about replacement windshields/posts and someone will give you the info. I know it's been discussed int he last year, but my Deserter is a Series One, so it doesn't use that windshield.

Good luck...

The Bounty Hunter does use a late 50's early 60's Dauphine windshield.

Yes, I know about them thanks, I just need to know for sure that the Bounty Hunter screen and posts will actually fit a Renegade.

Looking at Flat4Tom's car...and recalling what I think mine looks like (unbuilt and under a tarp), I think the bottom of the windshield was much more curved. The one you have in your picture seems straight across.

I can't answer the question either, but I'm fairly certain that Renegade in the picture was nearly mine. It was originally green. I didn't buy it because it didn't have the windshield and no one knew what fit, but the Dauphine has always been the best guess anyone had. Nick just used plexiglass in it, which I know won't pass your MOT.

I've compared loads of pics and recon the bottoms are slightly different shapes. I didn't get the body I was thinking of getting, but am still keen to get one for the future so i guess it'll be just a case of going to a windshield place and seeing what's a close fit that can be cut down to shape.

Thanks for your input guys.

I didn't end up buying the shell that I was hoping to. British Renegades came with an Anglia screen but original US ones were different and I was after a more original look. I'm pretty sure they took the same Renault Dauphine screen and cast aluminum posts that the Bounty Hunter used.

Good luck finding the posts. The windshield is available fom many sources. There is usually a supplier on ebay, as well as:

ProSource Glass International
Toll Free:877-345-2800
978-975-5400

My last quote was $420 plus crate and shipping.
