I am interested in what the story is behind the rights to this design
From this thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technic...heels.html
I found this "Fuchs cannot sell its wheels to the public;
Porsche owns the commercial rights to the wheels, but has ceased production, save for a limited run in 1998."

Do I detect my question killing this thread to point to the reality that everybody repoping various fuch's is stealing a porsche owned design? _________________ (06:31:07) RoachGhia: "i drink dick way too fast" |

I don't think this thread has much to do with your post.
Porsche never made 17" Fuchs that looked like this. They only added to the lip of a 15" Fuchs.
Lots of companies make a 'Fuchs type wheel'. (and they are 15" like the originals) There are plenty of threads about them. Why not post there?

The fuchs have been copied by tons of people. Don't single Paul out as he is the only one not making them with a Porsche cap. Subtle differences make his wheel different and unique and more than likely will not be bothered because of this.
Mention this to CIP1 or EMPI or Midland Wheels or FLAT four and who ever else is making them exactly like the originals. Lets leave this thread to the 17" porsche fuch lovers and not people bothered by jargon. _________________ TheSamba members-only discount - Samba24

I will bite. I will be honest, I do not know if the fuchs have copyrights, patents or design marks on the original design or alterations to the original design. If I built them, I would make sure. I am confident Paul has done this. I would guess that if they did, flat four, empi, midlands and iozzio wheels would have had registered letters or attorneys contacting them. And in the event that did happen, none of them would be producing them. On the flip side, if they have not been contacted in one way or another, the above mentioned people probably do not care as much as the three of us do and possibly more. I think most people forget about the original guy only to squeeze dollar bills. All of the above mentioned people are in it to run a business and make money.
And to answer your question Erik, the wheels get tested for weight, bending and breaking limits and they have been certified to work for the intended use. TUV on the other hand, I am not sure. _________________ TheSamba members-only discount - Samba24

It was never a case of you needing to "bite" I just had a simple question and asked it, I made no judgement as to them being right or wrong but people seem to think that that is implied.

Erik, they are SFI/DOT tested. Just FYI a person making a wheel is not required to DOT/SFI test their product in this country. It is totally by choice, but it was important enough for me to spend the money to have the testing done. Peace of mind for me and my customers.
I do believe that Krusher has singled me out, I looked and he has not posted in other manufacturer threads concerning Fuchs styled wheels built by other companies.
Krusher if you have the time and like to create drama then contact this company, they would love to hear from you on the situation they have started worldwide. Plenty of legal issues to discuss, brother. Here is a link to get you started http://www.bp.com/bodycopyarticle.do?categoryId=1&...n_the_gulf good luck. _________________ Paul Iozzio
