Super score, I'd say. What radio is it? What hooks onto the side of the bus? No rust in any of the usual bad spots, og paint, og engine, headliner, etc. |

Very nice find and a great price! You may want to help protect your investment by relocating the in-line fuel filter to another location |
AND by clamping it. Cool bus at a GREAT price. A real nice way to enter the bus world. Congrats and welcome Focker. |
The filter will definitely be relocated...I had to do the same thing on my beetle. Gas dripping on the distributor doesn't do it for me. _________________ I’ve tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!

Had to be for a tarp I'm guessing...They probably line right up with gromet holes.

The rockers will need replaced and there is a quarter sized hole in the passenger floor board real close to the heater...I can roll it as is for awhile.
I don't think so...Engine # indicate - May 1966. _________________ I’ve tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!

Sapphire V is 12V AM radio for 1967. You are very lucky to have those '67-only rubber radio knobs. Early Sapphire V's carried over the chrome knobs from earlier Sapphire III and IV radios. The flat rubber knobs came a little later in the '67 production and are not particularly common

Do you know how hard it is to get a new to you bus and then have to leave town for a camping trip?
I'm sure there is much debate on the order of importance when it comes to fixing up your bus/bug but I'm running my own set of rules. I plan on doing a complete brake & maintenance overhaul but first I wanted to address the cleanliness of my bus.
I have to say the last couple of days have been therapeutic...Bus bonding is far out man.
The interior is great but just needs a little soap & water.
The dash cleaned up nicely...I can actually read the front of the radio.
I removed the beat up door panels...I hope I can salvage them.
While I worked away on the cab my boy got to work in the cargo area...This pic right here makes the whole bus venture worth it!
Comparison shot...Some vinyl paint (bottom) on the weathered mats...They'll do for now.
My first crack at panel covering. I wanted to cover up the speaker hole that had been carved into the kick panel. I didn't know the bus came equipped with such a fine work area...Bonus!
Punching the screw holes...The crusty punch is about as old as the bus.
Someone had hacked the back upper panels for speakers too.
I had left over vinyl and thought it would look alright in black. I can always change it!
Still to come:
Brake repair (MC)
Engine clean up & service
New battery tray
Paint the rims
New tires
Exterior buffing (carefully)
Roll this bitch!
Future items:
Safari's
All new seals & rubber
Mirrors
Seat upholstery
Rear seat
Bumper paint
Front door panels
Rockers & other rust issues
etc. etc. _________________ I’ve tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!

I wasn't happy with the black vinyl and if you look closely you'll see where the speaker cut out was...Looks like crap!
So back to the drawing board. I was going to make a new panel and cover it in an off white vinyl but then I had an epiphany. I bought a 8' x 4' sheet of 1/8 hardboard from Lowes and some spray paint that best matched the headliner. When I got home I had another epiphany (I rarely can do that twice in a row) I decided to paint the rough side of the board to give it some flare.
Mo better. I had to hold the board over a boiling pot of water to shape it for the corners...Not easy but I learned something new.
Before...Yuck! (opposite side).

Awesome...I was holding comment because I loved everything but couldn't stand the black vinyl and didn't want to knock one thing when everything else was so kickass. What a great job. _________________

That's cool...I bought black because I couldn't find a grey that matched close enough...I was trying to utilize extra material left over from the kick panels. The hardboard was $8 bucks and 2 cans of paint was $6.84...So less than $10 for 2 panels.
Now for the front doors. If I can't save the upholstery I'll try the paint thing again...Noth'in to loose. _________________ I’ve tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!

I think the door panels are toasted.
I painted the rough side of a new panel and will use the original chrome strips to separate the two tone.
Here's a close up of the flip side of the hardboard...It almost looks like cloth...Not too bad IMO.
Obviously I'm not going for actual restro here...Just cleaning up the cosmetics a bit. If I bought new front panels they would clash with the rear set and I'm not in a position to shell out $700 + on interior...Yet! _________________ I’ve tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!
