    * Repacked the front bearings.
    * Need to order new brake cylinders & install.

It's hot here...My garage gets up to 110F...I'll be waiting for cool mornings on my days off.

I started to pull the gas tank today but got side tracked with the dangling wires. I believe fictitious Farmer Fred (I just searched the member list before proceeding to avoid confusion...Surprised there isn't member by that name...Anyway) must have had some sort of electrical needs. He had wires spliced into the rear brake lights on both sides as well as an outlet...Hmm?

Would someone tell me where the other end of the wire on the right is supposed to go. You're looking at the passenger rear brake light. The driver's side doesn't have the extra prong.

Anyone know why he would have done this? The paint is ground off and there are threads inside the hole. It's on the passenger side...For reference the battery tray is in the background.

Isn't that last one for the ground strap? Don't know about the other two questions.

It's an improved ground connection. The original taillight ground was a little spike that goes through the seal. It gets corroded over time so this keeps it bright.

Why the extra nut? I don't know. Other than that, it's the bolt to hold the battery ground strap in place.

Thanx...So just look for a screw hole close by? The wire is only about 8" long & bare.

I know what some are thinking...Don't even go there!

If it's bare, they probably just tucked it into the battery ground bolt connection.

Wiring is done now back to the original task at hand...The gas tank.

One could say that pulling the tank was a big waste of time...The gas God's are smiling upon me. I know it was worth the time to pull for inspection now than to risk running dirty gas.

Some innards...Sweetness!
I ran water through the tank into a bucket and was lucky to find any particles! The condition of the tanks interior walls look practically new. I'm not sure but I would almost guess that those who are tired of me poking around with the bus have snuck in and fixed a few things.

a buddy of mine "ran" water thru his tank, a few days later there was some CRAZY rust inside. You should flush with gas or alcohol or something like that as the inside of the tank is bare metal. Check it out before you proceed.

I couldn't figure out why my tank weighed so much when I took it out, and why I couldn't seem to get it cleaned out. Out of frustration, I punched the top of it and it tore, so I opened it up just by grabbing it and tearing it.

The grass and crap blew in when I mowed, but you can clearly see why I wasn't able to clean it out. The thing must weigh a good 25 pounds.

I'm on 5 acres, and that thing is about 200 feet from where I park. For about 2 weeks the smell would just about knock you down.

After I reinstalled the tank today I did just that. Thanx for the heads up tho!

Wow...It's been awhile.

It's been so hot in the garage I've had no motivation to work on the bus. A local club friend (Eric) shot me a motivational picture yesterday so I finally got off my duff and did something.

I finished cleaning the motor and put in a new seal kit. Eric came over and we re-assembled the motor. I had next to nothing for new parts other than the seal kit & plugs. The good news it it runs and doesn't leak. More good news...It should only need the basic tune up components to run like a champ! I'll be at The Bug Shack first thing in the morning to grab what's on my list.

Gratuitous shot just to feature the bug.

The club Pres loaned me this beauty of a exhaust...I dig it...It completes my bus' look.

I didn't want to paint it & cover everything with rattle can...I want it running sweet and looking natural.
