I am planning to to some port and valve work on the new ones when they come in for my 36 hp challange engine and was lucky enough to borrow this to see how far I can go.

Splitpile, sweet pics.

Hey, do you know who does all of the machining work on those heads? I have some raw Okrasa heads that need pretty much all of the machining work done on them and curious who has the tooling to do it.

Thanks,
A

There is a shop here in town called OLLIES, they have been around since the late 60's and use to do a lot the VW and Porsche machine work in the So Cal area and have now moved to Havasu. Ike and George bought Ollies a few years back after starting work there back in the early 70's.

Ike has a pair of Okrassa heads there now he is working on. They do all Porsche stuff now but the local VW heads here talked them into breaking out all their old VW tooling. Lots of vintage knowlage there.

Hello-

I'd love to see some flow data comparing the WW heads to original Okrasa heads. Wink

I think there are some comparison numbers in the Brukrasa thread.

Me and Tom Bruch talking the fundalmentals of Vintage speed in front of my Judson engine with the cut-a-way WW Okrassa head, can't wait to get it on a flow bench (not the cut-a-way) to see how it compares to Tom's Brukassa heads numbers.

I'm taking Tom on the on local speed shop tour next week to meet some of the local VW heads in town now that he's a winter local..

Are those castings available? Who carries them?

Those are really nice to do some vintage tweaking.

Ronnie, the head looks great. It will be good to have at least one set running in the 36hp Challenge. Hopefully there will soon be more.

Wolfsburg West are making the complete Okrassa copy kits, should be available in August or there abouts. I asked WW if it would be posable to buy just the castings, sans valve seats and guides for the vintage speed crowd.
When I asked to borrow the cut-a-way I was informed that approx 20 heads are being delivered sans seats and guides. Nice of WW to step up to help meet the needs of the vintage spped crowd.
I am looking forward to recieving a couple sets to play with.

I am prepping the 36 hp case tomorrow to take to the machine shop for machine work and dug out a varity of p/l sets to figure out which I can use and/or will work.

Today we started playing with valve size, we could go big but I do not want to weld the head, what we do anybody will be able to do with-out spending big bucks. It looks like we can go approx 37 intake and 32 exhuast with-out welding. Porting will be limited also as to the lack of meat, but the intake ports have a nice line and there's room to clean up the exhuast, so we'll make them flow better. Damn I wish I had the real things allready. We're ready to go to work.

We (Ollies and Geoff Hart) have been discussing how much HP and torque it would take to push a bus to 100 mph, using data from a couple of my engines I've had in buses that could do 100 mph, we'll see what we can achieve as the project progresses

Just guessing: 180 HP to do 100mph ?

Im guessing far less than 180.

Ive got a bone stock 1600 sp in my bus and it will push the bus up to 80-85 (gps verified) before I run out of RPM's (small tires and 4.12). With taller gearing and a longer smooth road, I do not doubt it could go 90.

I think 75-100 hp would easily push a bus 100 mph with the right gearing, especially on the salt
