Any auto parts store should have a generic electric pump if you can't find a mechanical one. Coming back from the Pomona swap one year, my roomate's Bus crapped a pump and Auto Zone in Bakersfield had one. It was like $40, but they had it. If you have a 1600 based engine (not 36 hp), try searching for a pump from a Bug, since they are interchangable. A lot of times they'll tell you they don't have the pump for your vehicle, but they have a perfectly good substitute on the shelf from a later model.

Glad to hear things worked out. Yes, there are still great people out there who will help others in times of need. My personal thanks to all of them!
