Long story short... I bought a 66 fastback last week and drove it a little under 500 miles from southern cali to the SF. Trip went well. No problems at all. Only thing is that i am hearing a noise coming from the front driver side. I thought it was a bearing a took them out. Inner and outer. I did see some little metal shaving on the spindle, but not that many. The bearing themselves are packed with grease and I was just going to go buy some at kragen and replace them. Here is the question. Do you believe that a noise that happens even at the slowest speeds (EXample... pulling it in the driveway) would be caused by just the bearing? Thanks for your help. Kinda a noob when it comes to VW's... But i always wanted one and i fell in love with the type 3's. Thanks again. |

re packed the original bearings since there was no sign of damage. There is a rotating squeaking noise in the rear driver side. It isnt the bearings because i jacked the car up again and the noise was not there. |

If you saw any metal, change the bearings and races (inner and outer.
Also check your speedo cable. |
