Hello everyone,
Sorry first for my english, is not the best…
I registered in your great forum and would like to introduce myself briefly:
My name is Ralf, I am 42 years old, have a family with children and am in the auto parts sector operates.
I drive since I have a driver's license VW Beetle, VW Bus, etc.
We currently have a 1303 Beetle Subaru EJ22 engine with my wife and my VW Bus T3 Caravelle GL with automatic and EJ25 DOHC engine.
Thus, the Vanagon looks like:
Here is a picture from the engine is currently already converted to EJ22 heads of the first generation is going well:
special manifolds with 200 cell catalytic converter and muffler WBX DJ:
at the time I just verbaue an almost complete roof air conditioning, this also some questions, because the parts procurement in Germany is very difficult for the very rare built air conditioning:
Seeking the two switches for the air conditioning, each consist of a knob and a switch, most likely with a piece of cable and plug it ...
Part Numbers:
Air switch: 253 959 512
Button Air Switch: 253 959 487A
Switch for fan motor: 321 959 511 A
Button for fan motor: 253 959 487
maybe someone has already slaughtered buses in the US and has such switches needed for me?
Good condition and function of course.
Furthermore, I would look for two sun visors for the molding above the cockpit because they are different with climate.
Part Numbers for which I am looking for:
left 254 857 551
right 253 857 552
Hope somebody can help me...
Greetings from Bavaria
Ralf |

Welcome to the forum. That is a very nice looking van. If you haven't found the parts you need in the classified section, I'll bet someone will be able to steer you in the right direction. _________________ 1989 Syncro Westy

Fantastic Caravelle! Welcome to the Samba.
I would suggest that you post an ad in the Classified Index - Parts section here with a description of the parts that you want and the part numbers. You should place the ad as a "WTB" (Wanted to Buy) ad.
You could also contact Vanagon restoration shops that often have parts from vans that have been disassembled or modified. I know that gowesty sells their used parts. Send them an email at [email protected] and they will let you know if they have the parts.
Now, can you tell us about your Caravelle? I thought that it was impossible to modify old vehicles in Germany because the TUV is so difficult. Furthermore, many people in the VW community don't car for our Subaru conversions because it is not a VW engine. I can only imagine the response in Germany.
I have never seen an air cleaner housing like yours or an exhaust/header system like yours. Are those standard conversion parts in Germany or did you fabricate them? You also mention 2.2L heads with your 2.5L. Are you like us in California where we have really only received State emissions approval on OBD1 conversions?
And I agree with Ben, Dein Englisch is Super!
Alles Gute!

First of all thanks for your warm welcome here.
I will place even in the search Ads with this part, but I have to find some way around the forum first.
To Caravelle, she is originally from Austria, where they wanted because of the automatic transmission no, it was announced over a year for Euro 4500, my happiness.
Originally a 112HP water boxer engine had only 110tkm and I could sell it for about 1000 euro, because I had always intended to convert the bus on a sturdy Subaru engine.
No problem in Germany by the way, drive it determines 200-300 Vanagons with Subaru Conversions with TÜV blessing and it is growing.
The series brake's allowed with us TÜV to 136HP, are therefore the most conversions EJ22. Many of transmissions, as some of my automatic transmission.
We have also a forum in Germany, look at www.t3subaru.de
However, I was lucky enough to get a 1998 Legacy with 150tkm for 400 euros with a slight accident, as much the decision to DOHC.
Unfortunately, the previous owner said the head gaskets were made, they were not.
After a short time on the bus compression came into the cooling water.
Therefore, the conversion to EJ22 heads.
Because of the emissions I'm not worried, exhaust emissions fully ok, everything is as in Legacy, Cat, Lambda, kompette electrics etc.
Is entered here with Euro 2.
Was important to me that he is not attracting noisy outside and above all quiet inside.
Therefore, quite a bit has been changed on the exhaust line.
an end to the efforts here in sight. The exhaust manifold I can make at a small factory, specializing in stainless steel exhaust systems for all cars.
Bring definitely one or the other HP.
The exhaust manifold alone has cost 500 euros and was edited by me in the field Cat.
The beetles my wife we can build the system the same manifold and the rest, see for yourself:
so that the motor rotates fantastic high, is also an EJ22.
Become way soon the original NJ automatic replace it with a reinforced Audi 200 Turbo parts NJ.
I prefer more times a trailer.
Automatic also got a ATF cooler from PT Cruiser.
The air box the way, comes from a Renault Megane Scenic and was adapted by me.
Vanagon is actually already been a time repainted, the skins I have retrofitted.
It has central locking, power and ABS !!!
Here are some pictures:
disconnect the EJ25 ECU with Immobiliser under the seat, key and the engine will not start:
short oilpan from www.lmb-technik.de:
the original Subaru tachometer with Bus scale:
the original speed of donor Smallcar, but unfortunately in no position over 120km / h running under it already.
I will soon be converted to another.
besides, I'll soon be retrofit the original cruise control, everything is ready
I have more than EJ22 yes, the brake is converted internally ventilated front before the TÜV on Audi 288mm. Parts originate from Epytec, here the saddles from Audi with '57 Pistons:
here very recently upgraded the already EJ22 EJ25 heads:
important factors here
Provided oil pump with new seals and new sealant
Install new timing belt kit
Order and install special Cometic head gaskets in USA
Thanks, more coming soon ...

Welcome! Love that header. Primary pipes look a tad large for my liking but better design than most!
Here is mine:
My first attempt at a custom header. My Primary pipes are 1 3/8inch.
Great low rpm torque and it sounds fantastic.
I'm sorry I can not help you with the switches you need. I had them but i threw them away. THey come up in the Classifieds from time to time.
Keep on Dubbin!

I pulled one of these ac systems out of a bus to use in mine. Didn't use it, so I have everything, including the switches that go in the over head vent part. PM me.

|
|
So, was again busy Saturday night,
because my old brakes still worked, but as I looked at the brake Epytec adapter and discs / calipers updated:
Disc has reached the wear I think:
Dust sheets looked like a miracle that with gentle using the VW special tool no. 1
all cross-head screws not broken, a miracle
then cleaned everything ... and with new galvanized sheet metal dust that looks the same quite different:
I like the Japanese screws (Subaru), since they have a cross-head and hexagon.
Heads I had to lose some weight, so do not strip the ABS ring:
New disks with the Epytec adapters, unfortunately fit the spacers between the wheel and hub until the repair by Epytec, in the first step were too much play.
But it was very straightforward with H. Ebner, thank you again for that.
here with the ABS ring, well that I had two ... let himself down from behind to knock quite well:
here now with wheel bearings and grease, and a new seal:
and assembled, adjusted wheel bearings and secured mother:
important accessory:
I like when everything is plug & play suits, here with new replacement saddles ATE57:
Coverings are incidentally ATE Ceramic, so that the wheels are not as fast dirty.
ATE discs also
General view from the back:
The Epytec saddle holder make a very solid impression, of course screws with 120Nm to rule tightened.
the holder for the brake line and sensor cable I had to change something in their own work:
well if you can find much in the business in some drawers, in the case of small stainless steel angle Webasto.
the conclusion to me left with the question of how to center the wheels ???
only weak point in my opinion.
because there were still the old shims really a pity, never mind, I just have the centering turned down:
ups and have a clean rim centering, which can not leave because they do not fit over the hub caps, ie until it stuck, then center cap on it:
our mechanic vented brake, he checked everything, made a test drive and brake slowed somewhat.
He was satisfied with my work and has a little bit grinned when he returned ... comment "brake well, goes well ..."
greeting
Sturmi
