Great Story! Really enjoyed reading this thread.... and seeing that you still have it and drive it made my day! |
And it makes my day to hear that! This year marks 12 years of ownership for me...I've had this Beetle for more than half of my life |
Just read the whole thread, great work on the car. Glad to see the younger generation(I'm 36yo but feel much older lol) taking over ownership of these cars and enjoying their simplicity.
Nice work!!! _________________ **1971 Super Project

Thanks! It's no show car or perfectly preserved example, but I've learned so much that I've been able to apply to every other car I've ever wrenched on.
Plans for the upcoming year are to get all the window seals replaced, rebuild the pedal cluster, and to get the whole fresh air/defrost hooked up and in working order. Maybe I'll finally get a working radio in it too! Also going to try and start removing rust and treating the underside. A full body-off resto is still out of the question, but I can at least stop the rust where it is.
I'd also like to pull the engine and replace all the gaskets, transmission bushings, basically everything I can replace without rebuilding. The engine may be a bit tired and I know I'm getting some blow-by, but it's never let me down and runs flawlessly.
Thank God Kentucky doesn't do vehicle inspections _________________ My '72 Super |

Nice bug! I saw your picture in the dogs and vw's thread so I clicked on your link. Too bad about the missing pics, a lot of threads are now missing their images. I also own a beetle that I've had for half of my life (20 years).
I love the 'Bat Country' front plate! _________________ Brandon |

Long time, no post. But! I still have the car, and it still lives in a garage where the rust can be kept at bay. I rebuilt the engine last year. Nothing really went wrong with it, but the muffler was rusty and finally blew out a massive hole. Dropped the engine...one thing led to another and I rebuilt it! Put a few thousand miles on it since then and no issues other than a sticky float valve (replacing the new one with the original solved that problem). Well, that and it's getting about 18 mpg. So still trying to figure that one out. Hopefully I get some time to post pictures of the engine rebuild! _________________ My '72 Super |
