The one thing that is a bummer is they both have writing on top.

Make sure you prime or blast them before paint because straight black paint won't stick very well to the plating used.

Has anyone found an exact date/chassi number the bus switched from left hand side to right hand side pre-heat tube? Thought it happened right around the start of 1966 model year AUG65.

good question

It was May 1966 they went to the pre-heat from the heater box.

Not that change. Before that the pre-heat for the carb moved from the LH side to the RH side. Here is a good image of this in the AUG65 OM:
