Hello Vanagon gurus,
I just replaced all of the ball joints and bushings on my 90 Westy (what a job!) and can't figure out how to stabilize the Tie Rod Ends so they don't spin when I am trying to torque them?
The spindles are not hexed or notched to allow stabilization.
I would appreciate your help with the above,
Thanks
Raymond

I use a plain nut (not a NyLoc) to tighten them, then back it off and use the NyLoc.
The first go sets the taper which holds tight enough to keep the joint from spinning as you install the correct nut. |

| Push the tie rod end into the knuckle. Pushing the male taper into the female taper locks them together and prevents the male taper from spinning. I usually use a pry bar against the chassis or lower control to pry up on the tie rod. |

I bet that works pretty nicely.
Putting a jack underneath the tie rod to force them upwards will also stop them from spinning. _________________ '87 Syncro Ferric Oxyhydroxide Superleggera Edition

IF the tie rod is clean and dry and the bore is clean and dry, as they both should be simple hand pressure will prevent the tie rod turning. It is extremely rare that a tapered joint should be lubricated. _________________ Schau in das Buch |
