I just picked up one of those myself yesterday. Mine will be getting the "custom" look since the bumpers, windshield frame and lights are all broken/ missing. The kids love it though.

I have a white one, too. I'll post a pic when I can. You asked about getting spare parts:

http://peg-peregoparts.com/vehicle.php?num=HP0260

I got mine for a song, the only real problem is the windshield had yellowed over the years. I also had to be creative with the battery pack. These cars are really hard to find. I found my by chance on Craigslist when I searched for Herbie. There wasn't a picture, and when the poster sent me one I nearly crapped my pants! I had never seen on before. The only Bugs you find any more are the new model. And even then, the two-seat dune buggies are getting hard to find...

I bought one of those new in 1995 for my son. I ended up putting a lawnmower battery in it. I donated it to the local Goodwill when my son was a little older. We found out my wife was pregnant a week later but the bug was alreadt gone. I would have loved to fix it for my next son. Now, I have boy #3 (4 yrs old) and would love to find another one soon.

I have two of them in my backyard that I planned to put together to make one good one but it never happened. I paid $100 for a new battery to make sure it worked, and it did. If anyone in the northeast is interested, I would be happy to sell these and get them to someone who can use them.

It looks like a lot of the mechanical parts are available right off Peg Perego's website!

http://peg-peregoparts.com/vehicle.php?num=HP0260

I need to get the Gear Shifter assembly.

I also found a Peg Perego service guy here in Tacoma. He was off 38th St, and worked out of his garage or had a shop in back, I can't remember. He loved the condition of mine. Very cool old man, but it looks like a trade that is disappearing. Sad

I have one of these that is Red and in Perfect Condition for the most part. Has all of its original parts, paint is still good has been kept in the garage its whole life. It belonged to my niece who is now to big to ride it. I have tried to look for information on how much these are worth but have not been able to find much. Any information would help! Thanks

Just got one from my Neighbor that had it in there garage sitting for a long time, They bought it new I think at the VW dealer and there daughter grew up in it and even drove it when she was 18! she is not a heavy girl. I eyed it for the last 12 years since we moved in the neighbor hood and just a few days ago walked by and she was cleaning her garage and said do you want this, i know you have lots of VW's and you have little kids. I said that would be great! Still has the flag, gear shift boot, radio, old battery and charger and every thing looks good except the little glass plastic door windows. Seems to be a seriously beefy ride. My 6 and 8 are growing out of there barbie jeep and Lightning McQueen electric car and this would be good for them. So now I have to figure out what I can do for a battery. I heard they don't make the same cool one anymore but their is one that will work. I might take the cover off of the old one and see what is up with it. I heard it might be 2 6volt batteries. We shall see.
